About the Role

Reporting into the Head of Innovation Delivery Minerals Australia, this role is part of a team that is a true organizational catalyst on the cusp of leading us into the future to fulfil our commitments and shape new aspirations; ultimately making us a more innovative, productive, safer, and more sustainable enterprise.  

This team will deeply partner with our Assets, Exploration and other Functional teams to future-proof the Mining Industry through alignment of emerging technologies to solve for Asset challenges and to unlock the resources of tomorrow. The team enables the successful deployment and scaling of demonstration projects on site, in collaboration with our asset teams to drive value realisation, enabling BHP to innovate for today and reimagine the Mining operating model of the future.

As Lead Principal Innovation Delivery – Minerals Australia, you will lead part of a small business partnering team working in close partnership with our assets and the broader BHP business, including other innovation sub-teams, deeply integrating across all levels of the organisation, providing the necessary support, and project facilitation, to streamline the implementation of innovation pilots on site. You will also act as the key interface between the broader BHP business and the innovation team, to inform the innovation team about the priority focus areas it should pursue in support of the business.

Accountabilities with the biggest impact:

  • Define approach to building and fostering relationships across BHP Assets and Functions.
  • Drive ongoing relationship management with BHP Assets and Functions, maintaining a deep understanding of their operations, challenges and needs to translate these into key opportunity areas for Innovation.
  • Collaborate with the Product function and the BHP Asset Leadership Team to develop the business case for demonstrating and deploying initiatives within Assets.
  • Partner with the BHP Assets LT Leadership Team to embed Asset Innovation roadmaps into corporate planning processes.
  • Prioritise Assets and technologies for pilots and deployment.
  • Partner with Assets to identify opportunities for scaling solutions.
  • Collaborate with the Product team to gain a clear view of testing requirements and parameters for different initiatives on the product roadmap.
  • Facilitate the transitions of initiatives from the Product team to the customer and Assets for implementation and deployment, ensuring these operationally ready.
  • Develop plans for running testing and pilots onsite, coordinates and facilitates support between Product and Asset teams.
  • Lead, guide and coach direct report, contractors, and external partners in their execution of the team’s objectives.

About You

As a successful candidate you will possess the following:  

  • Proven ability to lead and/or scale implementation of innovation pilots successfully and rapidly into core business areas.
  • Experience working with operational Assets in Mining, ideally experience working on Brownfield expansion projects.
  • A deep understanding of a day in the life of our partners in the Assets, with an appreciation of the competing priorities and tensions which may impact the priority given to innovative trials, and the capability to successfully navigate those competing priorities.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain strategic relationships with a broad range of internal stakeholders and technical experts.
  • Demonstrated experience in identifying and understanding early indications where innovation is needed in business processes and systems.
  • Proven ability to apply technical Mining knowledge into coordination of solution testing pilots onsite.
  • Experience resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination across departments.
  • Experience in Mining or related fields in a managerial role.

Required

  • Graduate degree preferably in engineering or related fields.

Location and Roster

This role can be base in our Australia BHP Corporate offices in Melbourne, Brisbane, or Perth. Site visits & travel as required. You will be working on Monday-Friday roster. Flexible work is also offered.
