About the Role
Be part of the Strategy & Market Intelligence team (within Portfolio Strategy and Development) with a focus on shaping BHP’s strategy and portfolio and optimising the use of capital to maintain a strong balance sheet, strengthen shareholder relationships and growing competitive advantage. You will play a key role in leading a large and diverse team of multi-disciplinary professionals and proactively mentoring and developing talent. Your role will also entail developing BHP's strategy and shaping portfolio decisions to identify opportunities to deliver superior long-term risk adjusted returns for shareholders and stakeholders.
The location of this position will be be based in a BHP Office either in Perth, Brisbane or Adelaide. There is potential for domestic and international travel with this position. This is a full time position however flexible work options are available.
The Lead Principal role within Portfolio Strategy is a key lead role in which you will:
- Understand BHP’s sources of competitive advantage in order to drive differentiated strategic decisions
- Scan and analyse the external market environment for trends shaping the global economy and developments around evolving investor/societal expectations that could be sources of opportunity or risk to BHP’s strategic positioning, relative to its peers
- Develop a deep understanding of the value chains in BHP’s chosen field of competition and identify the strategic capabilities in which BHP must be best in class to drive and extend its competitive advantage
- Recognise the importance of Social Value to BHP’s competitive advantage and how societal and investor expectations of BHP in relation to Social Value may evolve in the decades ahead, making recommendations to extend that competitive advantage
- Employ innovation and critical thinking to generate ideas, and identify and develop unique opportunities to create value
- Support and build a compelling strategic dialogue with senior leaders to effectively communicate complex ideas and recommendations to drive decision making
- Demonstrate leadership, conviction and direction for BHP within an increasingly volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous environment using a range of scenarios to define BHP’s optimal strategic choices
- Optimise risk and reward based on an understanding of value drivers underpinning all processes, decisions, strategies and plans within BHP.
- Translate corporate objectives into actionable plans, communicating, managing and analysing the implementation of those plans, and reporting back on their progress to facilitate the delivery of our strategy.
About You
- Relevant tertiary qualification in commerce, law, engineering or science
- Experience in mining or natural resources value chain, or strategy development will be highly regarded
- Comfortable working with complexity and ambiguity to drive risk and value-based decision making
- Experience in creating and leading diverse, multidisciplinary teams with proven ability to achieve high quality outputs in a timely manner
- Effective communications skills with experience preparing for, writing and presenting to and influencing Senior Management and Business leaders
- Experience reviewing and understanding multi-disciplinary reports / documents and communicating key outcomes and takeaways
- Advanced stakeholder management skills especially with other subject matter experts, senior stakeholders and external parties
