Lead Process Engineer
Work Location: Brisbane
Roster: Monday to Friday
FFI has identified the opportunity to develop a green ammonia facility at Gibson Island, Brisbane, through construction of a hydrogen production facility and refurbishment of an existing gas-based ammonia production facility, owned and operated by others.
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Lead Process Engineer is responsible for the process engineering, technical design and interfaces across the Gibson Island H2 Project green hydrogen plant, providing technical assurance, risk assessments and supporting progress through various phases of project development.
Key accountabilities will include:
- Lead process engineering role, providing process technology solutions, design and engineering activities during feasibility, detailed design, execution, commissioning and start-up phases.
- Ensure effective application of process engineering meets the basis of design requirements of the project.
- Process design, simulation, heat & mass balance, process flow diagrams and any required process studies.
- Support the stakeholders by facilitating allocation of appropriate process technical expertise, supporting the development of alternative design solutions, and capturing associated risks.
- Oversee equipment sizing for process requirements, specifications, and data sheets.
- Review and approve key business deliverables including those with significant multi-discipline content.
- Participate in contract tender evaluations.
- Assure technical oversight of Engineering Contractor activities.
- Communicate and interface effectively with other disciplines, FFI process engineering function, ammonia facility operator / JV partner, engineering specialist providers and vendors.
- Assist in building and interpreting detailed technical and economic models with the data analytics team.
- Participate in specific detail design reviews and evaluations including technical safety reviews of design, HAZID, HAZOP, LOPA, QRA, risk analysis.
- Contribute to building a frugal cost-conscious attitude throughout the project team.
- Achieve and maintain effective communication with the project delivery team, and other internal and external stakeholders at all times.
- Carry out additional tasks as may be required from time to time by the Engineering Manager.
Qualifications and skills required:
- Bachelor’s degree of Chemical, Process or Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent study
- 15+ years’ experience working in a project setting from feasibility studies through to start-up.
- Industry experience in either energy power generation, industrial chemical processing, oil and gas processing, mineral processing, water treatment or projects involving renewable energy would be highly advantageous.
- Experience in overseeing EPC design activities and delivering large projects.
- Experience running process simulations, heat & mass balances, equipment sizing and specifications, developing PFDs and P&IDs.
- Proficiency or exposure to HYSYS, Phast an advantage.
- Knowledge of Australian and international codes, standards and industry specifications.
- Strong leadership skills and experience in leading direct and indirect reports.
- Strong data management and manipulation skills, with excellent computer literacy skills.
- Effective interpersonal and communications skills.
- Ability to problem-solve effectively.
- Strong analytical, literacy and numerical skills.
