About the role:

We are currently seeking a Lead, Procurement to join the team in the Brisbane office. The purpose of the role is to Lead a team responsible for the economical and efficient procurement of materials, supplies, services, and equipment for mining operations.  This includes direct, indirect, and bidding procurement activities.  The employee will have a shared services mindset when fulfilling his/her duties that include:

  • Addressing workflow/invoice issues in an accurate, timely and controlled manner
  • Collaborating to ensure shared understanding and accountability with customer(s) and supplier(s)

Continuously improving processes through further automation, digitization, analytics, self-service, mobility, and end-user training

Primary duties:

  • Partner and oversee PBS’s chosen lead outsourcer within the Procurement space.
    • Responsible for oversight of the outsourcer to ensure daily transactions are processed accurately, effectively, compliantly and in line with SLAs
    • Train and influence the outsourcer to understand, document and perform transactions as instructed.
    • Ensure resolution of exception items from the outsourcer and escalate when necessary.
    • Identify areas for improvement on both the outsourcer and internal side.
  • Ensure day-to-day procurement activities are performed according to defined procedures and in compliance with purchasing policies.
  • Collaborate with Procurement peers, Accounts Payable (AP) and Master Data teams as needed to resolve escalated issues impacting the outsourcer, mine sites, and/or vendors.
  • Identify and lead continuous improvement opportunities in partnership with Procurement and PBS peers, stakeholders, and outsourcing partner to deliver more efficient and streamlined processes that result in further standardized processes and cost reductions. 
  • Deliver and promote a high level of customer service and relationship management including problem solving and issues escalation management.
  • Lead and provide oversight to bidding projects in collaboration with Supply Chain Management (SCM), Operations, and other Peabody departments and drive cost savings and improvements for the Company.
  • Oversee the processing of SGA requisitioning that require special handling.
  • Manage staffing levels and schedules to ensure service levels are met while also making sure the team is scalable and can make timely adjustments to changing industry and company needs.
  • This role will require travel between mine sites and to and from Australia/US.

About you:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Procurement, Contract Management, or related field
  • Knowledge of core purchasing competencies and behaviours
  • Knowledge of supplier negotiation and relationship management
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Practical, working knowledge of automated procurement systems and Microsoft Office 365 products.
  • Adaptability – Maintains effectiveness in changing working conditions and managing teams remotely.
  • Third Party Management – Identifies and documents third party service issues.
  • Problem Solving – Identifies, analyses, and resolves issues to improve business performance.
  • Driving Results – Holds self and others accountable for performance and works to meet both individual, team, and business objectives.
  • Minimum 3 – 5 years of relevant experience required. Supervisory experience preferred, but not required.
