About the Role

We are currently seeking a Project Delivery Lead to join Olympic Dam Asset Projects.

Reporting to the Manager – Oak Dam Underground Access you will provide study and execution support to deliver the Oak Dam Underground Access Project. 

Oak Dam is an iron-oxide copper-gold (IOCG) exploration target located 65 km south-east of Olympic Dam (OD) and 35km from Carrapateena Mine. Its development is in line with the BHP growth strategy of increasing its exposure to future facing commodities through creation of tier 1 assets. The Oak Dam Underground Access Project has been established to enable early access to the Oak Dam mineral deposit to support acceleration of Oak Dam’s resource definition program and create the option for expediated mine production.

The scope of the project includes a decline system and supporting infrastructure to provide early access to the Oak Dam underground mineral deposit, 750m below the surface. Further information about the project can be found on the BHP website: Oak Dam | BHP.

The Project is planning to commence Definition Phase Study (DPS) in early 2024 and will request approval for Execution in 2025. This role will lead Execution planning in DPS and will transition to leading execution of construction activities in Execution phase. 

Accountabilities

  • Take a leadership role within an established, enthusiastic and high performing project team. 
  • Lead Project Execution planning during the study phase for the construction of all site facilities required for decline development (including bulk earthworks, construction of access roads and installation of non-process infrastructure, such as accommodation facilities, office buildings and electrical infrastructure). 
  • Co-ordinate with other BHP functional teams to procure long lead equipment items. 
  • Lead the development of Scopes of Work for construction packages, ensuring that project scope and battery limits are clearly defined and fully optimised for successful project execution.
  • Assist with contract strategy development, tendering and tender review process to ensure optimal execution contractor selection. 
  • Co-ordinate the development of Oak Dam site standards, process and training in support of a fit for purpose safety management system to be used at Oak Dam during project execution.   
  • Execute project delivery strategies, methodologies, systems and plans during execution and any early on-site enabling works required.
  • Provide line leadership for project team delivery specialists, site based construction supervisors and project operational interface resources.
  • Engage stakeholders to ensure alignment with objectives throughout the course of the project phase.  
  • Integrate and apply internal lessons learned and external best practices across the project with identified opportunities for improvements in project management, increased capital efficiency and productivity.

  • Strong leadership and communication skills 
  • Ability to establish strong relationships and bring together high performing project delivery teams

Note: This role is initially Adelaide based on a 5:2 roster with travel to Oak Dam required during execution of works on site. As a guide, this role is expected to be on site for a a minimum of 3 days per week during these periods. Flexibility in these arrangements will be accommodated within the needs of the project.
