About the Role
Reporting to the Superintendent Process Safety, this role is part of BHP Olympic Dam’s Surface Planning and Development Team and supports projects with a focus on process safety.
You will be part of a team that provides technical input to manage the Major Hazard Facility (MHF) risk profile and partners with the operation to enable improved safety and production outcomes. You will be highly motivated with strong communication and collaboration skills in a dynamic environment with senior leadership and a strategic mindset that integrates with tactical delivery.
This role can be located in Roxby Downs, or be Adelaide based with regular travel to site.
You will also:
- Manage multiple concurrent Process Safety Programs of Work, including schedule development, tracking and reporting of program health to senior leadership and strategic decision making
- Manage a small group of Process Safety specialists to ensure successful delivery of key Programs of Work
- Support continuous improvement and embedment of a Process Safety facing culture within the operation, from front line to executive level
- Provide assurance of Process Safety Management at Olympic Dam through implementation of elements of the Safety Management System (IMS)
- Facilitate risk assessments (e.g. HAZID, HAZOP, LOPA, BowTie) for both capital projects and operational activities
- Ensure Process Safety risks are identified, assessed and managed according to BHP’s Safety Our Requirements and other BHP systems and processes
- Contribute to the development and review of Process Safety Material Risks, Critical Control groups and Performance Standards
- Contribute to the MHF Safety Case and building and maintaining relationships with the MHF Regulator, including the facilitation of Regulator performance reviews and audits
- Support Process Safety related standards, procedures and guidelines, including development and periodic reviews of these documents
- Support Process Safety incident investigations
About You
- Experience in leading a multidisciplinary team with a passion for mentorship and development of team members
- Proven success in managing and delivering complex programs of work, in at time ambiguous spaces
- Strong written and presentational skills with the ability to clearly communicate complex messages to a variety of audiences, including senior executives
- Drives collaboration within and across teams to ensure effective and pragmatic delivery
- Demonstrates a willingness to adapt with changing priorities and focus
- Tertiary qualifications in Engineering or an aligned discipline
- Solid professional engineering experience (or an aligned discipline)
- Process Safety Engineering exposure in the Chemical, Petroleum or Mining industries
- Experience working within a Major Hazard Facility and building relationships with the MHF Regulator will be advantageous
- Knowledge and experience in applying risk management techniques to support process safety risk identification, prevention and mitigation
- Ability to coordinate, review and challenge Process Hazard Analysis studies, Consequence Modelling, Quantitative Risk Analysis and Functional Safety activities
