Lead / Senior Process Engineer

Work location: Perth based (Balcatta)

Roster: Monday to Friday

In support of Fortescue’s focus on green energy and our carbon neutrality targets, one of our key initiatives is the production of green iron ore and steel

Based out at our new Balcatta R&D facility and reporting to the Engineering Design Manager, we are presently looking for an experienced Lead / Senior Process Engineer to join the team

Key accountabilities will include:

• Lead/Senior Process engineering role for pilot scale electrochemical and mineral processing facilities responsible for leading concept, FEED, and detailed design
• As technical design lead support project management to plan, coordinate, review, and approve engineering and project deliverables including technical specifications (e.g. BOD), scopes of work, and process engineering deliverables
• Supporting operations readiness including operating and control philosophies, procedures, test plans, commissioning/start-up
• Acting as key engineering interface with R&D scientists to tailor experiments such that laboratory results can be used to design and operate engineering scale facilities
• Mentoring multi-disciplinary technical team of engineers and scientists including making design decisions and resolving technical issues
• Engaging and managing contractors, equipment vendors and technical specialist as required
• Uphold Safety and Process Safety principles through inherent safety in design, subject matter expertise, and technical leadership

• Ability to work across multiple work fronts in a fast-paced environment and adapt to new requirements to meet aggressive stretch targets

Qualifications and skills required:

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemical or Process engineering or equivalent from an accredited college or university
• Minimum 10 years industry experience
• Minimum 5 years experience in FEED and detailed design of process systems (sizing and selecting equipment, PFD, P&ID, H&MB, relief calculations, hydraulic calculations, simulations, etc…)
• Demonstrated experience as Lead/ Senior Process Engineer for major capital projects including planning, CTR development, and resource management
• Demonstrated experience as Lead/ Senior Process Engineer for HAZID, HAZOP, and LOPA
• Industry experience in either metallurgy and mineral processing, industrial chemical processing, oil and gas processing, or projects involving renewable energy would be highly advantageous
• Experience in R&D, commissioning / startup, and pilot plant operation would be highly advantageous
• Experience coordinating and participating in design reviews and HAZID, HAZOP, LOPA
• Experience in preparing scope of works, contract tendering, and contractor management would be highly advantageous
