Due to the continuous growth and strengthening of our position Australia wide and the recent additional works being awarded at Byerwen, Macmahon has an opportunity for an experienced Leading Hand – Production.


Byerwen Mine is located approximately 20kms west of the town of Glenden in the northern Bowen Basin and is Macmahon's largest project on the east coast. Full camp facilities are available - accommodation and meals provided.

Some of your duties will include but not limited to:

•    Comply with the Byerwen Safety Health Management System – SHMS;
•    Ensure all Coal mine workers are following the Site and Mine Procedures in the SHMS and that any unsafe practises are reported immediately and action taken;
•    Ensure that the Coal Mining Act and Regulations are always adherd to;
•    Drive a safety-first workplace culture, which promotes a zero-harm work environment;
•    Deliver Daily prestart meetings to crews;
•    Monitor Safety through the shift and audit tasks to ensure that all risk is as low as reasonable achievable;
•    Monitor and promote continuous improvement in processes and procedures that will improve efficiency and productivity;
•    Conduct handovers with cross shift and pass on all information relating to safety and mining activities;
•    Work with Production Supervisor to analyse shift performance;
•    Work collaboratively with the Client Representative through the Production Supervisor to optimise productivity and compliance to plan on Dig floors and dumps;
•    Promote plant and equipment optimization in line with operation standards, OEM specifications and the mine plan;
•    Track and discuss team performance, deal with daily issues through coaching, training, or other development actions;
•    Manage reporting & administrative activities for the shift;
•    Liaise with maintenance personnel to finalise daily downtime reports;
•    Liaise with maintenance supervisors on maintenance, damage, and breakdown issues.

To be successful in this role you will be able to demonstrate:

•    RIIRIS201D conduct Local Risk Control, RIIRIS301D Apply Risk Management Processes
•    RIIWHS301D conduct Safety and Health Investigations and RIICOM301D Communicate information;
•    Extensive experience supervising mining operational crews;
•    Sound knowledge or mining equipment best practice and operational performance to meet production targets in in a safe and efficient manner;
•    Contractor mining experience within a Coal Mining environment;
•    Ability to understand and effectively implement the mine plan;
•    Proven leadership skills;
•    Standard 11 Induction;
•    Coal Board Medical;
•    Drug & Alcohol Screen;
•    Drivers Licence (manual).
