Legal Counsel

Silver Lake Resources is an ASX listed gold and copper producing and exploration company operating in the Eastern Goldfields and Murchison districts of Western Australia, and Ontario Canada. Silver Lake’s key assets are the Mount Monger Gold Camp, located 50 km southeast of Kalgoorlie, the Deflector Gold Copper Mine, located 160km east of Geraldton, the Rothsay Gold Project in the Southern Murchison region of WA and the recently acquired Sugar Zone Project in Canada. Silver Lake’s recent acquisitions establish them as a multi-asset, mid-tier gold producer with the financial strength to be a leading growth-focused gold company.

We are looking for a Legal Counsel to join our small legal team on a full-time basis.  Reporting to the General Counsel & Company Secretary, you will have the opportunity to provide advice and other legal assistance to senior management and operational personnel on a broad range of matters across our Western Australian and Canadian operations as well as to our corporate office.  

Key responsibilities of this role include:

• Preparation, negotiation and review of various commercial contracts including liaising with the Company’s insurance brokers
• Providing advice in relation to the interpretation and administration of contracts
• Providing legal support across a diverse range of areas including tenders, projects, native title and heritage, permitting, employment, and general compliance matters
• Assisting with the management of Warden’s Court and related tenure matters, including instruction of external lawyers and tenement managers as required
• Identification and analysis of developments in the law that affect the business and making recommendations for appropriate action
• Management of asset acquisitions and/or divestment transactions and assisting other merger and acquisition activity

The successful candidate must meet the following selection criteria:

• An Australian practicing certificate
• Between 3 and 5 years’ post-admission experience gained in a top or mid-tier law firm or from an in-house role
• Strong drafting skills
• Good interpersonal and communication skills
• Capable of managing multiple matters and prioritising effectively
• Self-driven and ability to meet deadlines
• Previous exposure to the mining industry
