About the Role
BHP’s Legal function is responsible for providing strategic legal advice to enable the organisation to achieve its commercial objectives and manage legal risk in compliance with applicable laws and consistent with the BHP Charter.
We now have an excellent opportunity for a lawyer to join BHP’s Legal team as a Legal Counsel. Reporting to the Manager Legal – Mt Arthur Mine and Coal Commercial,this is a unique opportunity to utilise your skills and experience with a leading global resources company. This role will provide legal advice and support BHP’s Queensland and New South Wales assets to achieve their goals while addressing commercial and legal risks.
The role is based in Brisbane, with occasional travel required to site.
In this role you will:
- Conform with the BHP Charter, Code of Conduct, Our Requirements and relevant statutory obligations;
- Have an overriding commitment to health and safety, and environment responsibility and sustainable development;
- Act as a key adviser, providing independent legal advice to support effective and strategic decision making within BHP’s coal assets located in Queensland and New South Wales;
- Advise in relation to port and rail commercial arrangements and regulatory access arrangements, material procurement, and general corporate and joint venture issues; and
- Work collaboratively with the Legal team and other functions to ensure BHP is appropriately managing legal and other external risks.
About You
You will be a qualified lawyer who is able to practice in Australia and has experience working for a top-tier firm or in-house in a similar role. Resources and energy sector experience, including port and rail experience, will be highly regarded.
As a true strategic adviser, you are able to draw on your experience and strong commercial acumen to solve complex problems and achieve business results. Additionally, you will be an excellent communicator (both oral and written) with the ability to negotiate effectively, and to influence stakeholders and build relationships with key stakeholders at all levels.
