About the role

We are looking for experienced Light Vehicle (LV) Mechanics to carry out maintenance and repairs on Northern and Southern Operations Light Vehicle Assets in the Lorim Point LV Workshop while actively working to identify opportunities for improvement.

You’ll live in the idyllic coastal town of Weipa, with full relocation provided, working a Monday – Friday day shift roster predominately at our Main Workshop at Lorim Point. There will be a requirement for overnight stays at Amrun when working on Southern Ops assets on a rotating roster basis and extra allowances are paid during this time.

Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, working Mon – Fri day shift your role may involve:

  • Carrying out scheduled servicing

  • Performing all maintenance scheduled work

  • Attending and retrieving breakdowns from the mine floor

  • Completing component rebuilds when required

  • Accurately maintain detailed reports associated paperwork with service or repair tasks.

What you’ll bring

  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team  

  • Respect for others and an all-inclusive mindset

  • A valid C class driver’s license

  • An Auto Mechanic trade qualification or similar

  • Basic computer skills and experience with Microsoft word and excel

  • The ability to communicate effectively within a team environment  

  • Experience with SAP or similar work management system preferred

  • A sense of ownership of the equipment and a mindset of continual improvement

Where you will be working

Our Weipa Operations includes three bauxite mines, processing facilities, ship loaders, an export wharf, two ports, power stations, a rail network and ferry terminals. Located on the Western Cape York Peninsula in Far North Queensland, each year the operation produces more than 35 million tonnes of bauxite.

Our operations are supported by a 1,900-strong workforce—including 26 per cent who are women and 25 per cent Indigenous employees. Activities include mine operations, maintenance, asset management, ports, cultural heritage management, and processing facility management.

The development of our new mine, Amrun, which was completed in 2018, will extend the life of our Weipa bauxite operations by decades to come and significantly build on our 55-year history on the Western Cape.
