About IROC+ The BHP Mitsubishi Alliance (BMA) Integrated Remote Operations Centre (IROC) is a state-of-the-art control operations facility encompassing our coal asset operations located across Central Queensland. This world-class control centre makes a significant contribution to ensuring our Coal operations continue to improve performance in a sustainable way by coordinating the near-term scheduling, planning, and controlling of our coal assets from the Brisbane CBD.
About the Role
The IROC (Integrated Remote Operations Centre) at BHP are currently looking for a number of experienced Fixed Plant Line Trainers to join their team. As a Fixed Plant Line Trainer, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality on-the-job training and assessments to our employees. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Fixed Plant operations, training and assessment and will work together with our onsite operations teams as well as the Brisbane based workforce.
In this full-time permanent position, you will be based at our Brisbane corporate office and initially working 7/7 roster.
The Fixed Plant Line Trainer is responsible for implementing training plans and resource material to ensure a high level of competency is maintained and ensure all candidates are trained and assessed fairly. Your team will be the single source of information for all training content, including creation, delivery, and review.
You will work in an environment which is dynamic and striving to continuously improve performance, and with this, you will be involved in continuous improvement projects to help us become even better!
In this role you will:
- Deliver comprehensive Fixed Plant onboarding and proficiency training programs for employees, ensuring all training materials are up-to-date and aligned with industry best practices
- Collaborate with Control Supervisors to identify training needs and develop strategies to address any skill gaps
- Conduct Verification of Competencies to ensure new team members are competent and authorised to work.
- Review performance and implement training in line with business drivers.
- Contribute to the design of training plans and close training gaps.
- Ensure fixed plant team members are adequately skilled across all crews to ensure safe and effective execution of work.
Divestment of Blackwater and Daunia Mines:
On 18th October 2023, BHP announced that BHP and Mitsubishi Development have agreed to divest the Blackwater and Daunia mines to Whitehaven Coal. Whitehaven will assume operating control of the Daunia and Blackwater mines on completion of the sale, which is expected to occur in Q4 FY24. Whitehaven will provide an offer of employment to each employee directly supporting the Blackwater and Daunia mines.
The successful candidate will receive an offer of employment and contract from BMA for the role, and once the role has commenced, they will receive a second contract from Whitehaven on conditions of employment that are no less favourable on an overall basis.
The offer of employment from Whitehaven will start on Legal Day 1 once Whitehaven assumes operating control of Daunia and Blackwater Mines. Until Legal Day 1, BMA will maintain operating control of Daunia and Blackwater Mines.
About You
As the successful candidate, you will demonstrate:
- Relevant Fixed Plant experience ideally through a fitting/mechanical trade or similar.
- A passion for delivering your technical expertise to others in an engaging and professional way.
- Solid experience as a Trainer Assessor within the resources sector.
- Have an up-to-date Certificate IV in Workplace Training and Assessment (TAE40116)
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to effectively prioritise tasks and work autonomously.
- Exceptional presentation and communication skills with a proven ability to build relationships and facilitate presentations.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively coach to improve performance and upskill.

- You will be a motivated individual who can use their relationship building and negotiation skills in order to influence others and achieve desired outcomes.
- You will exhibit strong computer skills with the ability to learn new systems.
