About the role

This is a full-time permanent opportunity.

To provide specialised engineering and technical support to the longwall production and maintenance department for the management and improvement of IMC automation systems through planning and strategic execution of PCA strategy to ensure IMC assets are safe, reliable, and optimised as per the S32 Asset Management Standards.

Key accountabilities:

Performing their role within the Mine Operating System including:

• Conducting the performance monitoring of the longwall automation system(s) and any improvements made; generating corrective actions and executing these actions once approved
• Supporting the Superintendent PCA in identifying and defining PCA improvement projects within the longwall process area
• Providing input to the Superintendent PCA for the preparation and design of IMC-wide PCA processes and procedures; including longwall move automation processes and procedures
• Implement and comply with relevant safety critical risk controls as relevant to work activities 
• Demonstrate adherence to behaviours that are consistent with South32’s Values; South32 Code of Business Conduct, IMC Life Saving Rules, and IMC Behavioural Expectations
• Demonstrate safe work behaviours and practices including effectively identifying, reporting, and controlling hazards and risks to reduce incidents and injuries / illnesses or escalate and escalate where unable to control risk.

About you

To be considered for the role, you will have:

• Bachelor of Engineering – Communications, Electrical or equivalent (desired)
• Knowledge in PCL/ SCADA and HMI installation, commissioning, and programming (desired)
• Extensive Experience longwall mining operations and automated processes including pump station, coal clearance, shearer, and powered roof supports.
• Advanced fault-finding skills
• Ability to effectively communicate and influence across various levels of the business.
• Minimum of 5 years of working in mining operations including 3 years in underground longwall environment
• 2 years in frontline leadership role

Location

This position will be based at the Appin mine which is in the southern coalfields of New South Wales, near the coastal city of Wollongong and approximately 75 kilometres south and southwest of Sydney.
