Yancoal Australia is Australia’s largest pure play coal producer. It boasts three tier one thermal coal mines in New South Wales together with interests in three other metallurgical and thermal coal mines located in New South Wales and Queensland. Yancoal Australia also manages five other Australian coal mines on behalf of related parties. Yancoal currently employs over 4,000 people across its operations. Our Ashton Coal Operations include an underground mine and coal handling and preparation plant, located in Camberwell. The site operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Job Tasks and Responsibilities
Our Longwall Engineer leads the equipment medium and long term planning, machinery reliability optimisation and project execution effort within the longwall process area.
The Longwall Reliability & Projects Engineer will also be responsible for ensuring the activities undertaken by the longwall process team support the achievement of Ashton’s asset management objectives as nominated in the Strategic Asset Management Plan (SAMP). As part of our Maintenance and Engineering function, the role will also provide support and assistance to other process areas of the business as required.
The successful applicant will be committed to the proactive maintenance of our machinery with a proven safety focus, in line with our operating context.
The Longwall Reliability & Projects Engineer role involves the following key elements:
- Three months to five year equipment planning and budget horizons covering all elements of the longwall process;
- Optimisation of machine availability;
- Optimisation of machine productivity;
- Project planning and execution;
- Annual review and update of the longwall Asset Management Plan (AMP); and
- Input to the annual review and update of Ashton’s SAMP
Skills and Experience
Essential Criteria:
- Tertiary qualifications in Engineering, or equivalent relevant experience
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in the same or similar position
- Experience in the management and maintenance of longwall equipment.
- Experience in writing technical documents
- SAP experience (highly desirable)
- Sound knowledge of Coal Mining Work Health & Safety legislation, Australian Standards and MDG’s
- Highly motivated and proactive attitude with excellent communication skills
- Effective problem solving and decision-making ability
- Ability to deliver and manage deadlines
