Our Ashton Coal Operations include an underground mine and coal handling and preparation plant, located in Camberwell.  The site operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week.  

Job Tasks and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Longwall Coordinator, the successful candidate will support the coordination of the longwall process, supporting and implementing the necessary processes & plans to ensure longwall targets are achieved. Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Working with the Longwall Coordinator to enable safety and production targets are met for the longwall process area
  • Complete required underground inspections for planning
  • Assist with daily and weekly planning including input of details into the mine planning tool
  • Liaise with the Longwall Engineering team to ensure that statutory and routine maintenance tasks are completed on time and ensure machinery is maintained to compliance standards
  • Identify methods and promote suggestions to improve the efficiencies of current systems and processes
  • Plan and coordinate preparation works for Longwall relocations
  • At times you may be required to work on the back shifts to coordinate projects (e.g. Longwall relocations or for training purposes)
  • Be willing to step up into the role of Longwall Coordinator during periods of leave
  • Updating and developing Safe Work Procedures

Skills and Experience

To be successful in securing this role, you will possess:

  • Minimum 3 years' experience in a frontline leadership role (essential)
  • Extensive longwall operational and management experience (essential)
  • Sound knowledge of Underground development coal mining
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of Coal Mining Health & Safety legislation
  • Certificate of Competency (Deputy) or equivalent
