About the role

We are looking for a LTE Core Specialist to lead the analysis, design, standardisation, availability, operational readiness and ongoing optimisation of the telecommunications network, specialising in LTE Wireless Networks. Work in close consultation with Engineers in other Rio Tinto divisions and provide expert technical advice for operational telecommunications issues.

This role is a great opportunity for a network subject matter expert (SME) and architect to optimise current and emerging technology and deliver a reliable service to the business safely while working in partnership with global vendors.

Reporting to the Manager Infrastructure Engineer APAC, and working in an exciting and collaborative environment within the Global IS&T Operations team, you will:

  • Lead multiple technical teams consisting of internal and external resources, as well as vendors, to deliver Rio Tinto’s LTE programs as an SME
  • Design and optimise the LTE network by proposing solutions for existing and new services and ensuring its safe delivery into a live environment
  • Provide input into telecommunications strategy and planning processes
  • Develop test documents and evaluate UE devices for production use over LTE
  • Ensure that the capacity of the telecommunications network and physical assets are able to deliver the agreed service level targets in a cost effective and timely manner
  • Develop and manage ongoing updates to telecommunication standards, documentation and knowledge management
  • Management of all key core components of E-UTRAN MME, HSS, SGW and PGW and other EPC components
  • Define, analyse, plan, measure and improve all aspects of the availability of telecommunication services to production
  • Provide expert technical advice/guidance to Level 2 Resolver teams on an ad-hoc basis

What you’ll bring

  • Bachelor degree qualification (Telecommunications/Engineering, IT/Data Networks) or equivalent experience
  • Telecommunications based experience within a large enterprise/carrier or integrator; mining, oil and gas or manufacturing 5+ experience preferred
  • LTE EPC systems and protocols – GTP, Diameter, IP, Radius, HSS, MME, SGW, PGW, signalling trace/analysis, IMS, VoLTE
  • IP Transport/transmission – IP MPLS, Routing and switching, QoS
  • Sound knowledge of main equipment vendors such as Alcatel, Ericsson, Nokia, Cisco
  • Effective communication and reporting skills
  • Knowledge and experience of LTE Network Management Systems aka NetAct – Performance Management, Configuration Management and Fault Management
  • Knowledge of ITIL principles and processes and system engineering
