Network Protection Officer – (M8)
- Residential or FIFO role in Karratha, and FIFO to Tom Price from Perth

About the role
We are looking for a Network Protection Officer to Lead, Plan and execute Local Protection Authority and Track Protection Authority activities throughout the RTIO network.
This role is a great opportunity work closely with specialists to undertake task specific safeworking to support the day-to-day network protection requirements for all renewals and maintenance activities. Ensure legislative, RTIO process and system safety compliance across the RTIO rail network.
Reporting to the Network Protection Safeworking Supervisor, your duties will include:
- Manage the critical risks of rail maintenance worksites and implement the appropriate type of network protection for the works performed
- Effectively execute, support and drive the network protection functions of Rio Tinto Rail Maintenance teams for both inland and coastal operations compliance with RTIO Operating Rules, Procedures and Authorities
- Ensure thorough consideration, understanding and verification of heritage and environmental approvals
- Proactively provide Leadership in the Field by engaging in safety interactions across all worksite team members including external contractors
- Maintain effective communication and proactively build positive relationships with all stakeholders to collaborate, problem solve and achieve favourable business outcomes
- Foster a culture of continuous safety and productivity improvement in the development of existing integrated systems, introduction of new technology and work planning and execution
- Champion diversity and inclusion in the workplace and demonstrate respectful behaviours
- Coach, mentor and train safeworking personnel (M1 to M5).
- Engage with stakeholders to develop Site Safety Management Plans and deliver Network Protection Pre-Start briefings
- Drive and monitor performance expectations for employees (and contractors) and coach performance against these standards including implementing corrective and improvement initiatives in accordance with RTIO policy.
- Ensure all safeworking personnel including contractors are effectively qualified and appropriately supported regarding but not limited to:
- Safeworking execution at worksites;
- Safeworking planning (SSMP’s, obstructions etc)
- Training;
- Safety;
- CRM (Critical Risk Management)
What You’ll Bring
To be successfully considered for this role, you will possess leadership capabilities with a collaborative approach. You will also be required to :
- Multitask to deliver results with excellent attention detail while managing challenging and conflicting priorities
- Follow specific rules and procedures and work within tight parameters
- Demonstrate a solution focussed mindset strong problem-solving skills and ability to make decisions in a quick and thorough manner
- C Class Manual Drivers licence
- Strong communication skills.
- Good level of computer literacy
- Ability to effectively manage rail safety of a workgroup

Where you will be working
With two opportunities on offer, one role will be FIFO from Perth to Tom Price and one will have the option of being FIFO from Perth to Karratha, or residential in the coastal town, with a short drive to our rail operations in Dampier.
