Mainline Locomotive Operator

Work Location: Hedland Operations – Rail. Fortescue’s Hedland Operations are located on the traditional lands of the Kariyarra people.

Roster: 4D/4N/8R – FIFO ex Perth/Residentially OR 7D/7N/14R – FIFO ex Perth

Reporting to the Supervisor of Rail Operations, you will be responsible for meeting customer needs by safely, reliably and efficiently delivering ore from the mine to the port. In addition, you will also operate fuel, ballast and work trains as required.

Key responsibilities include:

• Operating all FMG trains over the expanding FMG Network, shunting, locomotive provisioning, general yard work, carry out minor repairs, vehicle checks, and assisting RSM technicians as requested
• Ensuring that all customer's needs are met regarding the delivery of ore from the mine to port facilities by being flexible and using your initiative and skills
• Assisting in the coaching and developing the knowledge and skills of lesser experienced operators and trainees

 Qualifications and Experience:

• Heavy haul experience (preferable)
• A current medical fitness to operate a locomotive
• A demonstrated commitment to Safety and Safe working
• A very good ability to problem solve and make decisions
• Previous experience of working effectively with a limited amount of supervision
• A current driver’s licence
• Good computer literacy in MS Office software
