About the role
We are looking for a Mechanical Maintainer to perform preventative and breakdown maintenance tasks on critical and supporting assets in the Plant & Automation Team.
Working as a Mechanical Maintainer you will be required to inspect and maintain a variety of assets that support the greater Rolling Stock Maintenance Division.
The right candidate will be a self-starting motivated individual with a strong work ethic, who is looking to showcase their advanced skills with Hydraulic & Pneumatic systems and previous experience in maintaining sophisticated automated plant assets.
This is a residential role, living in the coastal town of Karratha, offering comprehensive relocation assistance, heavily subsidised housing and other residential lifestyle allowances/benefits to the successful candidate.
Working an attractive 6 day on, 6 day off roster and reporting to the Plant Maintenance Supervisor, you will be:
A subject matter expert with specialist diagnostic skill conducting root cause analysis, fault-finding and diagnosing efficient solutions to machine breakdowns
Proactively supporting continuous improvement processes to improve machine uptime and reduce machine breakdowns
Performing assigned preventative and reactive maintenance tasks to ensure reliability of Plant Assets, including -
Portal lathes, Underfloor Wheel Mills, Axle lathe & Wheel borer
Automated wheelset assembly systems, including – Gantry Cranes, AGVs (Automated Guided Vehicles), bulk wheel storage facility, and Floor automation
Screw Lift Jacking Systems, pneumatically automated rolling stock isolation systems, remotely operated rolling stock shunt equipment, hydraulic maintenance to trolleys and pneumatic knuckle handling systems.
Mechanical maintenance on Compressors, fluid transfer systems, loco wash equipment, sump pumps and piping systems.
What you’ll bring
To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:
Experience in working with automated processing and machining equipment (Rail industry an advantage)
Mechanical trade qualification
Outstanding approach to personal and wider team Health & Safety.
Sound understanding of Hydraulic and pneumatic system application, fault finding and maintenance
Strong Computer skills (SAP / MS Office)
Coaching and mentoring experience to influence team success by achieving results.
A manual C Class driver’s licence.
Ability to work effectively in a team environment to achieve results.
It will also be beneficial if you have:
Tertiary qualifications in Mechatronics Engineering
Experience in operating and maintaining automated equipment
HR Class Drivers Licence
High risk licences (Elevated Work Platform, Forklift, rigging and/or dogging ticket)
Working at Heights, Confined Space National Competencies
Exposure to a maintenance management system, such as SAP

Where you’ll be working
We operate 200 locomotives on more than 1,700 kilometres of track in the Pilbara, transporting ore from 16 mines to four port terminals.
The average return distance of these trains is about 800 kilometres with the average journey cycle, including loading and dumping, taking approximately 40 hours.
Our network is the largest privately owned and operated heavy haul rail system in Australia, and as we focus on the future, our vision is to become the greatest heavy haul railway in the world.
