We are looking for Relief Team Leaders (Mechanical) to join our Maintenance Department at Rio Tinto Yarwun. You will work closely with the Team Leader to achieve our safety, people and growth objectives through planning and executing maintenance activities.
This is an active position, where you will be on the frontline with the team and also able to support the leadership group
Reporting to the Maintenance Team Leader on a 9 day Fortnight Roster,, some of your duties will include:
- Performing daily maintenance activities when required
- Assist with coaching and development of the mechanical tradespersons
- Demonstrating personal and team behaviour that meets or exceeds the Yarwun Visions and Models for leadership
- Fostering a culture of zero harm and continuous improvement
- Lead or support shift start meetings
- Perform scheduled field leadership and infield activities
- Support onboarding and training of new team members
- Escalate people, safety and work-related concerns with the Team Leader and assist with resolving issues in line with company policies
- In conjunction with the Team Leader, integrate relevant safety routines and risk assessment processes (e.g. CRM, QSI) into daily routines and behaviours
- Support with notification management and job planning
- For periods less than 2 weeks (short term), support the team by providing coverage for the Team Leader
What you’ll bring

- Current valid C Class drivers licence
- A Mechanical or Fitter & Turner trade qualification
- Proven history of fault finding, troubleshooting and repairs on various fixed plant equipment
- Proven maintenance experience working in heavy/industrial industry

Where you’ll be working
Located in Central Queensland, approximately 10km north-west of Gladstone, Yarwun alumina refinery commenced operations in 2004. Processing bauxite from our mines in Weipa and Gove, Yarwun produces more than three million tonnes of smelter grade alumina annually.
As one of the largest industries in the Gladstone region, Yarwun employs over 700 people and has a large contractor workforce.
With a focus on safely improving our process every day, the team at Yarwun challenge themselves to use existing and emerging technology to support our 24 hour operation.
