ABOUT GEMCO

Located on the tropical Groote Eylandt in the Northern Territory, GEMCO is an open-cut mine that is accountable for over 20% of the world’s manganese ore production. Groote Eylandt is home to the Anindilyakwa people, who are the traditional owners of the land and have been working alongside GEMCO since 1963.

ABOUT THE ROLE

This is a permanent full-time role being offered on Monday-Thursday 4:3 roster from Darwin or Cairns or residential on Groote Eylandt considered. 

Reporting to the Vice president Operations, as Maintenance Manager you will be responsible for delivering safe reliable equipment, optimising production, and ensuring budget delivery through effective people and systems leadership. Focus areas include Mobile, Fixed Plant, Electrical/Power Generation and NPI maintenance.

Key responsibilities include:

• Work safely within the South32 Safety Guarantee including leading, establishing, and maintaining an interdependent safety culture within the team including the delivery of improvements in safety performance.
• Apply continuous improvement to all areas of accountability and perpetually strive to deliver better value outcomes through the application of rigorous improvement process
• Ensure optimal management of the department through the effective and efficient application of policies and procedures, business systems, human and financial resources
• Drive the consistent expectations, understanding and application of the processes in use to deliver safe mining and maintenance activities in compliance with planned deliverables

ABOUT YOU
 

You will be an experienced Operational Leader who places a priority on providing a safe working environment and continuous improvement to all areas of accountability.

You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following:

• Prior experience in a similar role managing multidisciplinary Maintenance teams of 300+ personnel
• Relevant Management experience with the ability to make critical business decisions.
• Proven experience in Business Improvement and implementing change
• Outstanding interpersonal skills, with the ability to coach, lead and facilitate cooperation with production employees

Qualifications for this position are:

• Tertiary qualification in a related Engineering discipline preferable (Mechanical, Electrical, or similar)
