Energy Resources of Australia (ERA) operated Ranger, Australia’s longest continuous uranium mine, surrounded by, but separate from Kakadu National Park in the Northern Territory. In accordance with Government legislation, all mining operations and uranium processing at Ranger ceased on 8 January 2021.

Today, ERA’s strategic priority is the comprehensive rehabilitation of the Ranger Project Area to a standard where it can be reincorporated into the surrounding Kakadu National Park if Traditional Owners and the Commonwealth Government wish.

About the role

We are seeking a Maintenance Planner to deliver optimum utilisation and productivity of plant, labour and equipment. This will be achieved through the preparation of detailed work packages and plans using the SAP Maintenance Management System.

Reporting to the Senior Reliability Engineer, you will be responsible for:

  • Prepare and administer maintenance plans, forecasts and schedules in line with the maintenance strategy and plant performance requirements for the Brince Concentrator and supporting infrastructure
  • Lead planning meetings, manage reporting and collaborate with the operations and engineering teams to ensure plant KPIs are maintained
  • Develop and implement work orders to satisfy routine, preventive and breakdown maintenance.
  • Co-ordinate the development of major work packages and maintenance strategy delivery
  • Co-ordinate with the BC Supervisor and Asset Availability to lead the prioritisation of defect and routine maintenance jobs
  • Using the SAP system to facilitate raising maintenance approvals, work orders and ordering spare parts
  • Inventory planning and management
  • Actively analyse and report on maintenance performance and costs against KPIs, budget and forecasts
  • Develop maintenance work packs; ensuring the allocation of all necessary parts, equipment, services and documentation to allow effective execution of maintenance and operations tasks
  • Support problem solving functions and encourage the maintenance and operations team to support continuous improvement activities
  • Accurately update the CMMS system with regards to changes in materials, resources or work scope based on actual data and feedback from operations and maintenance staff
  • Co-ordinate and develop the ongoing accuracy of the entire maintenance process encompassing, billing of materials, routine work instructions and reporting
  • Prepare the shutdown plan, utilising the tools and templates provided
  • Plan, lead and manage the development of the necessary shutdown plan pre requisites to ensure safe, effective and efficient maintenance activities to meet shutdown objectives

What you will bring to this role

To succeed in this role, you will have:

  • Experience in maintenance planning and/or maintenance management
  • Experience in using computerised maintenance management systems (CMMS)
  • Knowledge and understanding of mechanical and electrical equipment
  • Working knowledge and understanding of WHS legislation
  • Proven experience in using SAP in planning or maintenance related role.
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft suites particularly Excel
  • Ability to think on your feet and provide effective and timely solutions
  • Experience in working in an operating plant environment
  • Experience in water treatment operations
  • Experience in mechanical and electrical maintenance

Where you will be working

Energy Resources of Australia Ltd (ERA) is a publicly listed company with Rio Tinto its major shareholder. ERA has mined and produced uranium oxide from its Ranger mine in the beautiful and rugged Alligator Rivers area of the Northern Territory since 1980. The Ranger mine is located on Aboriginal land, and is surrounded by, but separate from Kakadu National Park. 

Mining at Ranger ceased in November 2012 and since then, Ranger has been processing ore from stockpiles.

The role is either Darwin based on a Bus in Bus out arrangement between Ranger Mine and Darwin, or locally based residential in Jabiru. Subsidised housing arrangements for Jabiru residents will be included.
