We are seeking an experienced and driven Maintenance Shutdown Planning Lead to lead our power outage and shutdown maintenance planning and scheduling function to safely deliver world class availability and reliability to meet the present and future needs of our operational requirements. This role is critical in aligning shutdown maintenance execution plans with business objectives, driving efficiency, reliability, and continuous improvement across our operations.
Reporting to the Planning Superintendent, you will lead and support a team of Shutdown Maintenance Planners and Schedulers across Energy Operations to ensure shutdowns are properly scoped, planned on time and delivered against agreed shutdown readiness milestones, with dependencies and customer impacts understood and risk managed before execution.
The Energy Operations portfolio includes the existing power generation and network assets – thermal power stations, transmission and distribution – and, by 2028, the Pilbara green grid comes together adding 1.2GW of solar, over 600MW of wind, and 4–5GWh of battery storage, all integrated across our operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, coach and develop the shutdown planning team to deliver high-quality, executable work plans and accurate forecasts.
- Establish and maintain an integrated network maintenance schedule to support outage planning, coordinate internal and external outages, manage risk, and improve maintenance planning and budget forecasting.
- Establish and manage shutdown governance, milestones and readiness criteria, ensuring scope, dependencies and customer impacts are addressed before execution.
- Monitor shutdown performance through clear ownership, milestone tracking and KPIs, including scope stability, schedule readiness and close-out actions.
- Implement contractor management compliance processes in line with the Fortescue Contractor Management Framework for all shutdown contractors prior to mobilisation.
- Drive best-practice planning in line with the Fortescue Asset Management Standard.
- Develop, manage and report OPEX and CAPEX budgets.
- Work with operations, maintenance, engineering, energy modelling, power system and integrated planning teams to improve planning outcomes.
- Lead continuous improvement across planning processes and systems.
Qualifications and Experience
- Extensive shutdown planning and scheduling experience in mining, energy or heavy industry
- Strong knowledge of CMMS and supporting maintenance planning platforms e.g. SAP, Anaplan, Shutdown Readiness Hub, SPEAR (Shutdown Resourcing) etc.
- Experience aligning multi-counter plans and integrated energy dispatch models for accurate maintenance scheduling and budget forecasting
- Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement and problem-solving skills.
- Leadership experience in a supervisory role (desirable)
- Project management experience, including budgeting, cost control and reporting (desirable)
