We are looking for Team Leaders to join our Maintenance Department at Rio Tinto Yarwun. You will lead medium-sized teams which includes tradespeople and apprentices towards achieving our safety, people and growth objectives through planning and executing maintenance activities.

This role is a great opportunity for a safety-focused Supervisor to drive positive change and motivate a team to strive for continuous improvement.

Lead, create and maintain a climate in which individuals feel included, valued and all team members are clear about responsibilities, expectations, and objectives.

Reporting to the Superintendent some of your duties will include:

• Demonstrating personal and team behaviour that meets or exceeds the Yarwun Visions and Models for leadership
• Fostering a culture of zero harm and continuous improvement
• Deliver operational excellence by identifying and implementing improvement initiatives
• Conduct required audits and inspections to a high standard, and for the purpose of reinforcing a strong HSE culture and systems
• Ensuring targets are consistently delivered in a sustainable/ timely manner and with maximum customer satisfaction
• Developing relief Team Leaders and other required capability within the team
• Delivering weekly, monthly and annual maintenance and safety performance KPI’s
• Managing expenditure within the allocated budget and execution of Yarwun operating system

What you’ll bring 

• A demonstrated commitment to the safety of yourself and your team 
• Experience leading in an industrial or similar environment with a maintenance and production focus
• A mechanical trade (or similar) background could be advantageous but if you have sound mechanical aptitude, a thirst for knowledge and ability to ask the right questions to problem solve with your team- please apply!
• A passion for developing, training and motivating your people and enabling their success
• Sound risk management skills and ability to make decisions based on risk
• Sounds computer literacy skills. Working knowledge of SAP could be advantageous

Where you’ll be working

With production beginning in 2004 at our Yarwun alumina refinery, located approximately 10 kilometres north-west of Gladstone in Central Queensland, today the operation produces more than three million tonnes of alumina per year.

Around 700 people support the operation, with an additional 350 contractors on site each year as part of scheduled maintenance shutdown activities. Thanks to its ‘Industry 4.0’ focus, Yarwun is also a leader in trialling new technologies to improve operations on site, including 3D printing, robotics and drones in confined spaces, and is home to Rio Tinto’s innovative Queensland Research and Development Centre (QRDC).
