About the role
At Rio Tinto, our purpose is finding better ways to provide the materials the world needs. We are seeking an experienced Management Accountant (Specialist Finance) with a strong business analysis focus to support decision-making across our Weipa operations.
In this role, you will act as a trusted business partner, translating operational and financial data into meaningful insights—primarily through SAP and Power BI. You will work closely with on-site operational teams, building strong stakeholder relationships and providing value-adding analysis that directly influences business outcomes.

This position is ideal for a Management Accountant (Specialist Finance) who enjoys working at the intersection of finance, data, and technology, and who is keen to expand their exposure to operations while collaborating with senior leadership.
Reporting to the Finance Business Partner – Weipa, your key responsibilities will include:
- Partnering with the finance and business teams to design and develop Power BI modules
- Delivering monthly cost analysis and insights to key stakeholders
- Supporting budgeting, forecasting, monthly closing and reviews, and cost leadership routines
- Identifying and driving continuous improvement initiatives
- Engaging with site-based and offshore teams to enhance financial acumen while ensuring appropriate financial controls
- Preparing for and participating in monthly leadership meetings
- Overseeing and completing transactional month-end activities
- Streamlining and automating processes where possible, and contributing to improvement projects
What you’ll bring:
- Demonstrated experience in Management Accounting
- Advanced Excel and Power BI capability
- Experience with SAP and exposure to AI-enabled solutions
- A Bachelor’s degree in Business, Commerce, Accounting, or equivalent
- Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills
- Proven ability to build effective relationships across diverse teams
- A continuous improvement mindset
It will be advantageous if you also have:
- CA or CPA qualification
- Experience in mining or a related industry
- Experience working with offshore or centralised service providers
