Our Opportunity

Work Location: Perth - Fortescue’s Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk people.

Roster: Monday to Friday 

As part of Fortescue Integrated Technology (FIT), the Data and AI department delivers the capabilities, products, services and technology that support Fortescue’s business. The AI Technology team builds and operates reusable AI platform components, orchestration frameworks and cloud infrastructure, enabling teams across the business to develop trusted AI applications and services.

In this role, you’ll lead the teams and operating models that support this work. You’ll balance business demand, people capability, delivery priorities, investment and risk to ensure AI initiatives are secure, well governed and aligned with Fortescue’s strategic goals.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead architecture, data science, AI engineering and automation teams, building strong leadership, career development and succession pathways.
• Shape capability and service roadmaps in response to business priorities, technology trends and demand across FIT and Fortescue.
• Establish a prioritised, strategically aligned backlog and coordinate demand, funding and delivery planning across teams.
• Set delivery approaches and resourcing plans, monitor performance and resolve escalations to improve value and delivery outcomes.
• Oversee the AI Platform and related technologies, including cloud AI services, OpenAI, data science platforms, MLOps, orchestration and integration capabilities.
• Champion secure-by-design, responsible AI and data governance practices across architecture, engineering and AI delivery.
• Manage platform access, technology and supplier risks, security controls, audit requirements and compliance obligations.
• Develop business cases and strategic plans, and report on delivery, value, risk, security and platform health to senior stakeholders.

Qualifications and Experience

• Significant experience as a technology leader who can combine strong technical understanding with strategic planning and large-scale delivery.
• Excellent ability to engage with business users, technical teams and senior executives, and can build the relationships and operating discipline needed to deliver complex outcomes.
• A bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, AI/ML, engineering, data science or a related discipline.
• Significant experience across software, AI or data, including leadership of people, squads or complex technical teams.
• A track record of leading large-scale product development or technology delivery in high-impact AI, automation or data environments.
• Strong understanding of AI platforms, large language models, MLOps, orchestration frameworks, model evaluation and lifecycle management.
• Knowledge of AI security, platform risk, responsible AI and governance practices.
• Technical familiarity with AWS, Azure, OpenAI, cloud-native workloads, data platforms such as Snowflake, and industrial or OT environments.
• Strong commercial and financial discipline, including experience with procurement, contracts, supplier relationships and risk management.
• Excellent communication, negotiation and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to work credibly across technical and executive audiences.
