We are looking for a Manager – Project Delivery to be responsible for the execution phase of multiple large civil projects as well as other mechanical & infrastructure projects within the Refineries capital portfolio to ensure projects are delivered safely, on time and on budget or better. This includes construction input into the feasibility stages of each project, input into the estimation of construction costs and schedules, materials, equipment and human resource planning for execution of the projects.
The role provides leadership to a team of Project professionals including Project and Construction Leads that are assigned to deliver capital projects pre-dominantly on our Refinery operational sites. You will actively lead a safety focused culture through disciplined compliance with Rio Tinto safety management systems. As the central focus point for project execution activities in Gladstone, this role will co-ordinate key material, equipment and human resources with a priority on workforce diversity.
The Manager – Project Delivery ensures that internal and external stakeholders at all levels are actively engaged, and beneficial relationships between the capital project teams and Rio Tinto Operations, subcontractors, community, and other external parties are developed and maintained.
Reporting to the General Manager Sustaining Capital and driving business and project delivery excellence you will:
- Manage a team of Project professionals including Project and Construction Leads to ensure the consistent delivery of the project portfolio safely, within budget and on time or better
- Lead by example and coach the team to continually improve safety performance, take responsibility for own personal safety and working practices and ensure the safety of all others, especially those under direct supervision
- Support project study phase requirements for capital projects in your portfolio, including construction input into funding requests for tender review processes, safety, risk, constructability, schedule, cost and lessons learnt
- Monitor progress and implement mitigation strategies where required to ensure project milestones are met and that work quality is of a high standard. In addition, identifying process improvement opportunities within project delivery to continually strive for best-in-class performance
- Oversee construction input to tender review processes and support project study phase requirements including safety, risk, constructability, schedule, cost and lessons learnt
- Working within a matrix organisation, ensure regular and effective communication within the RTA Sustaining Capital team, particularly Project Services
- Manage the development and implementation of construction management plans for each project
- Understand the critical risks and opportunities and ensure teams have effective controls in place to minimise the impacts and maximise opportunities throughout the execution phase of projects
- Contribute to the annual planning process by understanding the required capital works for each site, including business strategy, asset management, risk and potential commercial improvement opportunities
What you’ll bring
- A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
- A recognised degree in Engineering, Business, or related discipline or a trade qualification
- Have a clear understanding of project contract terms and conditions, including contract variation and change management processes
- Extensive technical, practical and leadership experience in the relevant discipline, including experience in construction management positions
- A thorough understanding of industrial construction environments and proven supervisory experience in multi-disciplinary teams
- Bulk earthworks civil experience in residue/tailings facilities would be advantageous
- Excellent people management skills such as leadership, team, interpersonal, coaching, mentoring and supervisory skills. Must be able to build, motivate, develop and manage an effective team.
- Excellent management skills including the ability to plan, set goals, manage time, priorities, resources, accountabilities, schedules and cost.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written

Where you will be working
This role will be based in Gladstone residentially and support our site assets at the Yarwun Refinery, Boyne Smelter and QAL refinery.
