Fortescue is seeking an exceptional procurement and commercial leader to manage the AI, Technology and Corporate Services category at a time of significant business change and opportunity.
This role offers the opportunity to influence and shape how a global resources company adopts AI and technology, improve the value and flexibility of critical corporate services, and lead a team that makes a visible contribution to Fortescue’s future.
The successful candidate will bring deep expertise in technology and AI commercial models, the confidence to challenge established thinking, and the pace and judgement to convert complex business needs into executable commercial outcomes.
They will be a trusted adviser and partner to stakeholders and a hands-on leader who stays close to the detail that matters.
In this role you will lead the C&P strategy, commercial direction and delivery of the AI, Technology and Corporate Services category, ensuring Fortescue obtains measurable business value, appropriate risk protection, speed to outcome and strong strategic relationships across its technology and corporate-services ecosystem.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain Fortescue’s technology and AI category strategy, aligned with business priorities and technology roadmaps.
- Lead complex procurements across software, SaaS, cloud, data, cyber security, digital products, managed services and emerging AI.
- Develop and negotiate commercial models that deliver value, manage risk and support innovation.
- Provide clear, commercially focused advice and recommendations to executives and stakeholders.
- Lead negotiations and contracting for high-value, high-risk and strategically important agreements.
- Establish effective governance covering data, privacy, cyber security, intellectual property, responsible AI use, resilience and supplier risk.
- Build strong relationships with Legal, Risk, Cyber Security, Finance, People, Operations and suppliers.
- Develop a high-performing team and maintain strong market and supplier intelligence.
- Oversee contract, renewal and supplier performance management to ensure benefits and obligations are delivered.
- Support Fortescue’s productivity, decarbonisation, innovation and Indigenous participation objectives.
- Promote safety and the wellbeing of the team in all aspects of delivery.
Qualifications and Experience
- 10+ years’ experience in senior procurement, commercial or category management, with a substantial track record in technology and/or digital procurement.
- Demonstrated experience negotiating complex technology and AI-related agreements and understanding the commercial implications of cloud, SaaS, data, platforms, implementation, managed services and emerging AI offerings.
- Strong command of commercial model design and the ability to evaluate total cost, value, risk allocation, scalability, optionality and supplier economics.
- Experience leading high-value, high-risk negotiations and resolving competing stakeholder, technical, legal and commercial requirements.
- The ability to move between strategy and detail: able to set direction, but also interrogate assumptions, contract terms, pricing logic, delivery plans and risk positions.
- Commercially confident communicator with the executive presence to influence senior stakeholders and the credibility to engage deeply with technical and specialist teams.
- Demonstrated people leadership experience, including priority management, setting high standards, coaching capability, building accountability and creating a constructive, high-performance culture.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and written-communication skills, with a bias toward clear recommendations and action.
- Experience in a complex, technology-enabled or rapidly changing organisation is highly desirable. Large technology, mining, energy, industrial or major project experience would be advantageous.
- Relevant tertiary qualification in procurement, commerce, law, finance, technology or a related discipline is desirable.
