We are looking for a Manager - Commercial Controllership to play an integral role in supporting senior management by providing timely and accurate financial statements, analysis and reports in accordance with the IFRS and Rio Tinto policies.

This dynamic team is responsible to deliver optimal controllership support to the Commercial product group ensuring that a high quality of all accounting, financial reporting, technical support and compliance services are delivered and maintained coupled with performance reporting and financial advisory services to the Commercial teams and supporting key finance projects.

Reporting to the General Manager, Finance and Accounting Services, Southern Hemisphere, you will:

  • Lead a team of 7 direct reports based in Perth and Montreal to create and deliver impactful performance reporting that will drive leadership decision making to deliver the value from Commercial;
  • Co-ordinate, prepare and consolidate analysis of the monthly, quarterly and annual financial results that will serve for management and external reporting, and engage with key stakeholders across the Commercial teams to review the results;
  • Provide technical advisory support in relation to new commercial initiatives that would include complex business arrangements;
  • Ensure compliance with adequate internal controls, SOx standard and Rio Tinto’s accounting policies;
  • Simultaneously manage complex projects, ad hoc requests and/or initiatives to/from various stakeholders;
  • Lead and support the Commercial Finance initiatives to standardise and optimise its processes;
  • Partner with operational Controllership teams to enhance financial services provided to the BUs;
  • Provide the required information for internal and external audits;
  • Solve complex problems and recommend solutions whilst promoting and contributing to process improvements.

What you’ll bring

  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance, accounting certification CPA or equivalent;
  • Experience in management and financial reporting;
  • Demonstrated leadership experience fostering the Rio Tinto values: Care, Courage and Curiosity
  • Solid interpersonal and communication skills with ability to interface with various stakeholders and across multiple regions and time-zones;
  • Hyperion Financial Management (HFM), SAP and advanced Excel skills would be highly desirable;
