We are looking for a Commercial Transactions Manager to join the Rio Tinto Energy & Climate (RTEC) Pacific Renewable Energy Team.
This is a great opportunity for you to become responsible for developing and executing commercial transactions to deliver on the energy acquisition strategy of the business spanning competitive auction processes and bespoke one-off acquisitions. The role will require coordination and management of our key stakeholder relationships including government and transmission network service providers, renewable project developers, utilities, supply chain partners and the relevant external advisors.
Based in Brisbane and reporting to the Senior Development Manager, you will:
- Oversee the structuring and delivery of deal and business development documents such as strategy papers, information memorandum, management presentations, valuation analysis, purchaser co-ordination, and the preparation of information for client/bidder/stakeholder communications, terms sheet/ contracts
- Provide end-to-end project management of transaction execution, including project schedule/tracking, transactions issue list and risk register and post transactions review
- Manage a team of financial advisors and due diligence advisors
- Liaison with vendors/bidders/stakeholders and other deal stakeholders
- Project manage due diligence processes including responsibility for the data room and Q&A process
- Coordinate commercial analysis and insights to inform transaction economics
- Coordinate the internal approvals process
- Ensure full health, safety and environmental compliance with Rio Tinto and statutory requirements.
This position can offer a number of flexible work arrangement options including flexible hours, part time, or job share arrangements.
About you
- Experience in commercial and financial aspects of projects, including deal structuring, financing, value optimisation, investment approaches and valuation methodologies
- Experience with renewable energy projects connected to the NEM
- Experience with negotiation of commercial contracts and associated processes
- Experience with providing advice and recommendations to senior leaders and executives on strategic decisions and investments
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage competing deadlines whilst addressing complex problems within rapidly changing environments
- Qualifications in a relevant commercial discipline, drawn from law, commercial, economics, business or finance and/or other relevant disciplines
- Experience working in investment banking and/or top-tier commercial advisory or accounting firms will be held in high regard
- Demonstrated communication skills, including ability to build relationships and excellent writing skills
- Ability to work effectively and efficiently as part of a small and dynamic team

Where you’ll be working
As one of the world’s largest industrial users of energy, Rio Tinto has a unique challenge in the energy transition. Rio Tinto Energy & Climate (RTEC) is a new global team focused on prioritising and accelerating our decarbonisation efforts to deliver on our climate commitments while ensuring our business is well positioned for the future low-carbon economy. Led by the Chief Decarbonisation Officer, the Energy & Climate team works collaboratively across the business to drive delivery of the Group climate strategy and address our key sources of carbon emissions.
The team covers Rio Tinto assets in Tasmania, Queensland, New South Wales and New Zealand which represents nearly 50% of Rio Tinto Group scope 1 and 2 carbon emissions. The team is focused on developing new energy solutions for the Pacific portfolio to reduce scope 1 and 2 emissions footprint. The energy solutions will be delivered in partnership and require an understanding of both the renewable industry and commercial agreements.
