Rio Tinto has recently launched a dedicated team to deliver large renewable energy solutions across our major jurisdictions. Rio Tinto Energy Development is focusing on accelerating the development of future energy assets and securing high quality renewable energy development optionality. The team's focus on the provision of green energy will enable the decarbonisation of the company’s existing industrial operations and support Rio Tinto’s future growth.About the roleRTED has been established to support and accelerate the delivery of the Rio Tinto strategy. RTED will drive project delivery, with multiple renewable energy workstreams moving at pace. To advance Rio Tinto’s decarbonisation agenda, RTED will work closely with existing teams across our Product Groups and supporting functions to accelerate the delivery of renewables into the energy supply mix. To achieve this objective and to maintain future growth optionality, we are looking to appoint at Manager Construction to join the team.

The Construction Manager will be Perth based with regular travel to the Pilbara. This role will lead the delivery of the construction scope for a major renewable energy project. Additionally, to develop and manage construction teams for future projects

  • Monitor and manages the performance of EPC construction partners to maintain project schedules and activities to effectively implement the construction plan
  • Monitor, manage and reports all relevant project performance indicators
  • Proactively manage the project compliance activities
  • Analyse and reports budget and cost variations to contribute to strategic decisions
  • Work closely with the commissioning and operations stakeholders to ensure a smooth handover at completion
  • Responsible for ensuring quality through ITP’s of on-site installation activities
  • Project representative for onsite internal and external stakeholders
  • Daily log of site activities ensuring accuracy of activities and contractor performance
  • Coordinate site technical and commercial issues with the Project Manager and contract administrator for resolution
  • Monthly validation of the contractor and suppliers progress claims with the project engineer and contract administrator
  • Ensure compliance to the regulator permits for site works
  • Communicate and set expectations with team members, contractors and key stakeholders

  • Responsible for the implementation of health, safety, and quality assurance programmes in line with company policies and procedures
  • Solve problems and identifies areas for improvement and collaborates with counterparts to try and minimise claims and variations in advance.
  • Identify and vocalise risk in all aspects of a project and collaborate to mitigate and manage risks
  • Leading project Health, Safety and Environment and Heritage compliance onsite
  • Development and manage Construction teams for future projects

About you

  • Experience as a construction manager delivering major renewable energy multi discipline projects using an EPC model within the $100M - $250M range 
  • Experience in Developing and managing Construction teams for multiple sites
  • Experience supervising works on remote construction projects 
  • Qualifications in engineering or project/construction management
  • Proven performance in working in teams and achieving results
  • Solid communications skills
  • Demonstrated ability to manage quality inspections, progress claims and schedule
  • Performance Management experience including setting realistic plans, managing change, and forecasting / reporting most-likely outcomes
  • Continuous Improvement knowledge– Finding new ways to innovate to improve results, and sustain a positive working environment for all
