About the role
Finding better ways to provide the materials the world needs.
We are looking for a Manager Content & Social who will deliver our global content strategy across our owned channels, including our group social media accounts and riotinto.com. This role sits at the nexus of three critical areas of our Communications function, including defining Rio Tinto voice and tonality across our owned channels, leading and doing content creation – everything from written editorial to design and multimedia – in support of our reputation and brand objectives, and connecting with internal, country, product group and project teams and other stakeholders to ensure our global content strategy is being reflected in all of our markets.
You’ll lead a central team of about four highly engaged content and social media experts, working alongside our well established digital and reporting teams, to increase Rio Tinto’s reach, engagement, and traffic on social media and riotinto.com. Plus, you’ll be a main point of contact for Communications professionals across Rio Tinto on how to create brilliant content for our owned channels. You will be responsible for:
- Delivering the group content and social media strategy: what we say, when we say it, how and through which owned channels.
- Providing leadership to the content and social media team, fostering a desire for excellence in everything they do and nurturing their creativity.
- Managing the development of fresh, interesting, and valuable content for our owned channels, including short and long form, strong visuals such as graphics and videos, executive positioning, and working with external agencies.
- Delivering a robust social listening process to identify emerging issues, having ownership of social media management and monitoring tools and agency support, and helping to manage crises and responses across owned channels.
- Defining our tone of voice, and ensuring our content is in line with this and our brand personality, including supporting training colleagues across the Communications function on application, and working closely with the Brand team in implementation.
- Creating and maintaining a like-minded community of people within the Communications function to help democratise content creation, remove inefficiency, and level-up the way we work together to create and deliver content.
- Working closely with Communications leadership, country, product group, project and talent marketing teams to support and influence the development, objectives and Return on Investment of paid campaigns in key markets.
- Analysing content performance across our owned channels, with progressively ambitious metrics, including upticks in engagement, audience growth and traffic, as well as overseeing the creation of weekly, monthly and quarterly content and social media reports and extracting key insights to inform future plans and tactics.
What you’ll bring
- A bachelor’s degree in communications, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience working in content strategy, management or generation, social media, public relations and/or corporate communications.
- An extensive portfolio of short and long-form content with data to prove how that content has contributed to increased reach, engagement, and traffic across owned channels.
- In-depth knowledge of social media, the platforms (particularly LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube) and how to get the most of them.
- Demonstrated experience in community management, and developing messaging to manage complex, sensitive, and multi-faceted issues.
- Established stakeholder engagement and relationships skills, both internally and externally with external brand and other agencies.
