About the Role 

This role is responsible for providing management of the engineering and delivery aspects of mining electrification projects that Perenti performs for its clients, from initial studies onwards. Initially this position scope of work is focusing on underground mining. This position will also play a key role in further developing and implementing Perenti’s Electrification Strategy (creating value by providing ‘end-to-end’ electrification solutions for mining).  This position is strategically focused includes developing and utilising partnerships, as well as potential acquisitions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Project Management and Engineering Management of multi-disciplined engineering teams (including electrical, mining, instrument/controls, mechanical/plant and software engineers) in successfully and efficiently delivering projects from study phases onwards.  This includes coordinating input and delivery from personnel and teams across Perenti’s divisions (including specialists in mine planning and development, mining engineering, operations, mobile and fixed plant, and software modelling and solutions) as well as coordinating with Perenti’s electrification partners (including global technology partner ABB).
  • Effective management of project costs, schedule, and risks (primarily for projects in the study phases) to ensure on-budget and on-time project delivery.
  • This position is required to regularly produce project reports for clients and for Perenti management.
  • Helping win new study/projects, including playing a key role (in partnership with Business Development personnel) in engaging with prospective clients, producing expressions of interest and proposals/tenders (including prime responsibility for producing hours/cost estimates and schedules) and undertaking post-tender meetings/presentations and negotiations.
  • Assisting in the further development and implementation of Perenti’s Electrification Strategy (creating value by providing ‘end-to-end’ electrification solutions for mining).  This includes input into the evaluation of what extra electrification capabilities Perenti needs to add and how best to add those capabilities (organic growth, partnerships and/or acquisitions).  This role will also play a key part in implementing the ‘capability additions’ aspects of Perenti’s Electrification Strategy.

Skills, Knowledge & Experience

  • Extensive experience in managing multi-disciplined engineering and project teams delivering studies (and further project phases) for clients in mining (preferably underground mining) or other resources/energy industrial context.
  • Experience in project controls including Cost/Time/Resource processes, cost and schedule estimation, budget management and schedule management.
  • Well-developed Client engagement skills, including for positioning for work, winning work and managing relationships throughout execution phases.
  • High level relationship building skills with external and internal stakeholders/partners, organisations & individuals.
  • Excellent time management skills, well organised and a very strong attention to detail.
  • Ideally experience in Mergers and Acquisitions – particularly re-evaluation and integration of acquisitions.
  • Previous experience working in the mining industry and site based positions is desirable.
  • Operate effectively in ambiguous environments and maintain results orientation to ensure delivery.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to cultivate and maintain productive working relationships with our Internal and external stakeholders.
  • Competence with a range of computer programs including the Microsoft Suite

Education, Qualifications & Training

  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Mining or related Business discipline
  • Project Management experience (desirable)
  • Change management training (desirable)
  • Minimum of 3 year in underground mining experience
  • C Class Drivers Licence
