About the Role
A recent internal promotion has given rise to a vacancy in the position of Manager Employee Relations Coal, based in Brisbane for an experienced Employee Relations Manager to join our team. This role is part of the Employee Relations Minerals Australia & Asia sub-function of Human Resources and has responsibility for employee relations matters within BHP’s BHP Mitsubishi Alliance (BMA) and New South Wales Energy Coal businesses. Reporting to the Head of Employee Relations Minerals Australia and working closely with the business, HR sub-functions and other supporting functions, this role is a strategic, proactive partner offering a regionally consistent approach. This role provides leadership to a team or teams focussed on the strategy of, and advisory on, employee and industrial related matters to the business.
Core Responsibilities: • Supports the strategy, advisory and management of employee and labour relations matters and outcomes within the business. • Applies an understanding of the business context and BHP operating model to enhance decision making, productivity and value chain performance. • Partners with senior leaders to provide evidence-based and strategic advice in alignment with longer term business objectives. • Identifies, engages and manages a range of diverse internal and external stakeholders. • Gains support for and negotiates outcomes that achieve mutually beneficial goals. • Identifies risks, makes risk adjusted/informed decisions and implements BHP's risk management framework to support safe and productive performance outcomes. • Relentlessly pursuing continuous improvement, leveraging BHP’s Operating System to achieve excellence.
About You
• Undergraduate degree in a related field or equivalent experience in a large organisation with multiple enterprise agreements and a large operational workforce • Experience leading, motivating and developing a team and bringing teams together in a flexible and collaborative work environment • Advanced coaching capabilities • Exemplary commitment to care and inclusion • Advanced stakeholder engagement and influencing capabilities with ability to leverage stakeholder relationships at all levels • Subject matter expertise in Australian industrial relations and employment legislation and ability to provide business partners with up-to-date industrial relations advice and information • Demonstrable experience in developing strategies and tactical plans, strategic decision-making and risk management • Coal Mining, Manufacturing and/or Oil and Gas industry experience • Cross functional HR experience where deep analytical and problem solving skills were developed • Experience in enterprise agreement negotiation and external advocacy • Strong work ethic, ability to prioritise business critical activities and a willingness to travel regionally regularly and sometimes be away from home overnight
• Bachelor's degree in HR, IR or Law is an advantage • Minimum of 5 years experience in employee relations or relevant field is required
This roles requires at least 2-3 days per week in office/on site and travel to our operational sites in Central Queensland and NSW is required. We are open to flexible arrangements (including job share).
