     PERTH OFFICE

South32’s corporate office is based in the heart of Perth’s CBD. The corporate office houses key functions including HR, Finance, Corporate Development, Investor Relations, Group Risk and Technical. Our office is conveniently located a 5-minute walk from the Perth Underground Train Station.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Opportunity - Permanent, Full-Time Position; this role will preferably be based at our office in the heart of the Perth CBD. We understand and value the benefits flexibility brings and operate a hybrid work model (in the office and from home)

The role of Manager – Energy will be responsible for leading the Energy team, effecting commercial agreements that optimize the utilization and cost across the energy portfolio at South32, and supporting operational safety, cost, and committed environmental targets.

Reporting to the Group Manager of Energy, Commercial, and Technology, the key role accountabilities include the following:

  • Sourcing Strategy and Plan for addressable spending in Australia
  • Leadership of commercial contract negotiations with vendors with specific knowledge of coal, gas, and electricity contracts
  • Support local sourcing managers in non-Australian sites with energy contracts
  • Analysis of opportunities to optimize spend and energy mix across the category while minimizing supply risk, incorporating into overall portfolio-driven category (mid to long-term) and sourcing strategies
  • Building and maintaining effective relationships internally with the Sustainability, Directional Studies, Technology and Planning & Development teams, and external energy bodies and regulators as appropriate

ABOUT YOU

You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following:

  • Min 10 years in a commercial/ supply environment, with a background in energy sourcing or trading, is preferred
  • Experience in resources, energy, or oil & gas experience preferred
  • You are respected for your leadership skills, are adept at managing relationships across a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders, and enjoy developing emerging talent.
  • You have sound knowledge of energy markets, with electricity market experience being advantageous.
  • You have a track record of successful delivery on complex, high-value commercial negotiations. You take a disciplined, planned approach to commercial transactions.
  • You have a high standard of written and oral communication and are comfortable presenting your analysis and recommendations to senior management audiences
  • Previous experience in economic/commodity forecasts and justifications and financial modeling

Qualifications for this position are:

  • Bachelor or higher degree in Engineering, Commerce, Finance, or Law.  Master of Business Administration or Energy related fields preferred
