This is a great opportunity to join our senior leadership team as Manager Engineering Geoscience and play a critical role managing the delivery of geotechnical designs, including studies work that enables safe and productive operations. We’re looking for an experienced leader to help build on our success and focus on the next level of safety, efficiency and productivity benefits across iron ore operations. You will be leading a team of technical professionals specialising in short and long term geotechnical design programs, geotechnical assessments on all excavated slopes as well as managing and reducing major hazard risk and embedding and improving first line assurance.

About you

Reporting to the General Manager Mine Technical Services, and working in a challenging and exciting environment within Iron Ore, you will:

  • Lead by example by embodying our values of courage, care and curiosity.

  • Deliver and lead geotechnical work across all time horizon including studies work for future deposits.

  • Empower your team to contribute to the cultural change process by fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration and continuous improvement.

  • Establish clear accountability measures to track progress and celebrate successes.

  • Drive a best operator mindset, by developing the right metrics and qualitative assessments to measure performance, whether that be program execution or the impact of cultural change efforts.

  • Remain adaptable and flexible in response to evolving circumstances or unforeseen challenges. Adjust strategies as needed while staying aligned with the overall vision.

  • Provide direct leadership to all reports including annual cyclical activities, regular performance conversations and support for team and individual technical development.

  • Actively support proactive engagement with Traditional Owners across the Pilbara.

  • Drive the development of technical capability though building technical competency and capability frameworks.

  • Developing networks externally with industry peers and academia to ensure that RTIO is adopting leading technical practices.

What you’ll bring

  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team

  • Recognised Degree in Civil Engineering, Engineering Geology or Geoscience discipline.

  • Experience in leading large technical teams

  • Strategic thinking: deep strategic thinking and numerical/analytical skills. Able to maintain perspective and switch between strategic and tactical priorities quickly

  • Judgement: able to identify and frame complex issues and opportunities quickly, and bring to resolution with a solid ethical framework

  • Stakeholder engagement: ability to develop productive, collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders

  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills: ability to frame and convey complex messages to a range of stakeholders using a wide range of communication methods

Where you’ll be workingBased in the Perth CBD, Central Park, this role encourages agile ways of working, on a Monday – Friday roster. Regular travel to the Pilbara is required.
