Nickel West is a fully integrated mine-to-market business. Our culture is rich with technical know-how, highly efficient and focused on innovation. The business employs over 2500 people from five operations across Western Australia comprising of nickel underground and open-cut mines, concentrators, a smelter and a refinery. We also have plans to expand our operations with new mines in the northern Goldfields and a large nickel sulphate plant in Kwinana.

About the Role
Reporting to the Head of Planning & Technical, we are actively seeking the talents of a collaborative and engaged Professional to provide technical leadership and excellence to the Nickel West Geotechnical Engineering team.
In this pivotal leadership role, you will draw upon your excellent technical and stakeholder engagement skills to foster effective and mutually beneficial relationships with key Operational and Planning Managers across the business. Your experience managing teams in a complex multi-faceted environment will be key to your success as you influence a positive, productive and collaborative team environment.
In addition, this position will focus on the following:
- Material Risk Management as it applies to Geotechnical Risk exposure, ensuring excellence in risk management processes.
- Continuously improve internal processes within the Geotechnical Engineering team to enable productivity and cost efficiency.
- Continuously improve Geotechnical Engineering processes to maximise value and preserve productivity and cost position for Nickel West.
- Lead, coach and foster a high performing culture within the Geotechnical Engineering team.
Regular travel to the operational sites to support leading the team and enable understanding of the operations and maintain relationships with operational personnel will be required.
About You
To be successful in this role you will be degree qualified with excellent technical knowledge combined with outstanding written and verbal communication skills. Complimenting your technical expertise, you will be team oriented, and relationship focused, with a demonstrated track record in achieving results.
Your passion for risk management and continuous improvement will be evident in how you engage and influence others to drive effective business outcomes.
Your demonstrated ability to nurture cohesive, high performing teams who search for ways to innovate and add value will further contribute to your success in this role.
In addition, we are ideally looking for the following skills and experience:
- Demonstrated experience working within the Geotechnical field, particularly in large deep open pits and high stress underground mines
- Experience leading internal improvement teams
- Highly engaged with the skills and desire to work collaboratively and persuasively
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to turn complexity into simplicity in order to problem solve at the right level, and enable risk-based decision making
We are committed to supporting employment within Western Australia. To be considered for this role, you must currently reside in WA or be willing to relocate to WA for the duration of your employment. A relocation package will be provided for Interstate applicants.

You will be based in Perth, Western Australia, in the multi award winning office tower - ‘City Square’. You will have stunning river views from your modern open plan office, state of the art facilities including virtual whiteboards and video conferencing facilities, 550 bicycle racks with ample lockers, showers and change room amenities and a large outdoor terrace with barbecues.
