The BHP Metals Exploration team is an integral part of the global Technical Office that also spans Geoscience, Projects, Technology, Maintenance and Engineering and Performance and Improvement. About the Role
As a Manager Exploration your focus is to set the vision, strategy and deliverables within Central/Eastern Australia to align the country exploration portfolio and team with that of the Region, and crystalise the potential growth options to the business through exploration success.
As a leader, you will be responsible for the full project pipeline from project/target generation through to asset handover of a discovery or divestment. You will provide assurance to the Head of Region that activities in the country are being executed, delivered and aligned with the “Way We Discover” exploration management system.
Reporting to the Head of Australasia for Metals Exploration (MEX), your accountabilities will include:
- Lead and inspire a dedicated team of exploration professionals focused on safe, productive, value adding execution of the country portfolio towards discovery.
- Prepare and manage resources (budgets, personnel) to support the discovery of minerals opportunities within the country.
- Ensure compliance and management of projects in accordance with BHP’s overall global strategy and standards, as well as ensuring strict adherence to all operational, environmental, legal, financial and social standards, practices and requirements.
About You
To be successful in this role you will be an accomplished leader with previous success in balancing operational and technical excellence to achieve exploration success. You will possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a focus on team-oriented results and a demonstrated track record in mentoring and coaching others to achieve results.
In addition, we are ideally looking for the following skills and experience:
- An overriding commitment to health, safety, environmental responsibility and sustainable development.
- Undergraduate or higher degree ideally in Geoscience.
- Deep understanding of exploration value drivers and customer focus related to asset requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams and develop and execute field operational plans effectively in challenging operating environments.
- Sound exploration judgement and decision-making ability, balancing technical, commercial, operational and risk elements using incomplete and/or ambiguous information.
- Previous experience managing multi-disciplinary teams.
Location
You will be base at BHP South Australia corporate office in Adelaide, located in Victoria Square in the heard of CBD.

This role will also involve some travel to exploration sites as required.
