The Opportunity – Permanent, Full Time Position
This position of Manager Geoscience Research & Technology will provide leadership and governance across Greenfields Exploration for Geoscience Standards, Data Integration & Management, Specialised Technical Support, and Research & Technology programs. The position also provides functional support for geoscience competency, capability, training, development, and career planning across Greenfields.
Reporting to the Senior Manager Greenfields Exploration & Geoscience , key role accountabilities include:
Technical (Exploration) Support, Competency and Development
- Contributes to setting strategies and direction to drive long-term value for the business through effective management and appraisal of greenfield opportunities across the exploration life cycle. This includes, as required, participating in field evaluations of internally generated and third-party opportunities.
- Responsible for managing business partner performance supporting exploration technology, research and select geoscience initiatives. This also includes establishing and maintaining an interdependent safety culture within the team and contractor / consulting network.
Greenfield Exploration Technology and Research
The role manages a highly focused portfolio of greenfield exploration technology and research projects, through external partnerships or collaboration.
- Accountable for delivering a greenfield exploration technology strategy and research portfolio that is aligned with our business priorities and focused on opening up new exploration search spaces for discovery and to ultimately improve orebody discovery rates.
- Working closely with Greenfields Exploration, Innovation & Business Optimisation and Digital Technology Teams to support established technology platforms and oversees the trial and integration of new disruptive innovations in direct detection of orebodies, and geospatial and non-geospatial data management and analytics for targeting. Designated Mission Lead for the ‘Securing Future Resources’ theme with the Innovate32 team.
- Accountable for developing and maintaining appropriate partnerships, collaboration and relationships with external geoscience organisations, professional associations, research and academic institutions.
Geoscience Data Management, Standards and Assurance
Sets geoscience technical standards and provides assurance to the Greenfields Lead Team that geoscience activities across Greenfields Exploration are high quality and being conducted to standard.
- Works closely with Greenfields technical leads, managers, and senior managers to identify, establish and maintain geoscience data platforms and technical standards to support key exploration activities.
- Oversees the maintenance of foundation geological datasets; geochemical, geological, GIS, etc. And their effective and timely delivery to the regional field teams.
- Manages the integration and standardisation of data capture, modelling, evaluation and presentation platforms across Greenfields.
- Defines, implements, and evaluates QAQC protocols for all exploration projects.
- Drives continuous improvement of Standards and workflows related to new and emerging exploration technologies.
Key shared responsibilities:
- Works, in collaboration with Supply, Community and Legal Functions, to develop and maintain relationships with contractors and suppliers and ensures alignment of the contractual obligations, terms and scope.
About You
You will be required to have the following:
- Advanced communication skills, including the ability to present geoscientific results to technical and non-technical audiences
- Advanced knowledge of deep under cover mineral exploration technologies and exploration targeting workflows, including advanced analytics and machine learning techniques
- Advanced and relevant experience modelling geological data in 2D and 3D using GIS and implicit / explicit modelling software e.g., Leapfrog
- Software competency: ARCGIS, LeapFrog, IOGAS, Acquire or related Information Management Systems, Microsoft products, including Access
- Prior experience working with or advising exploration and / or technology teams and managing/ participating in research projects and industry consortiums is preferred
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s (Hons) degree in Geoscience or equivalent, with significant industry experience
