We are looking for a Manager Global Industry Standard Management (GISTM) - Closure to join our Closure team at Rio Tinto and drive a rewarding implementation project for tailings management. Due to the global nature of this position, this is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced leader to join a dynamic Major Hazards global team, implementing the GISTM. Reporting to the Closure Major Hazards Senior Manager and working in dynamic team, this opportunity will see you work across more than 20 Tailings Storage Facilities (TSFs) within our global Closure portfolio. This role will also provide you with the opportunity to utilise your existing leadership skills, as you will manage a small team with a direct reporting line to you. You will:
- Lead and manage the planning, development and implementation of GISTM action plans and schedules to achieve conformance against the new GISTM
- Effectively plan and implement the processes required to enable the transition of assets to full conformance with the GISTM including overseeing the coordination of project tracking and progress reporting
- Engage with internal and external experts to develop the strategic direction of the project
- Identify and establish strong relationships with a diverse array of stakeholders to drive a culture of collaboration, participation and improvement
- Prepare project briefings, papers and updates to various internal and external committees and stakeholders, including Senior Leadership, Executive Teams and Committees
- Ensure the delivery of fit-for-purpose outcomes which support the asset team, achieve conformance and are sustainable into the future
- Identify and prioritise improvement opportunities for standardised processes, systems and tools
- Set global budgets for GISTM work packages
What you’ll bring
This position has a dynamic stakeholder group with exposure to various levels of the business including senior leaders and technical teams. Your strong stakeholder engagement skills and ability to build robust business-focused relationships will see you excel in this position. Due to the global nature of this position, your ability to manage stakeholders in different time zones, coupled with your ability to build credibility and influence consensus and collaboration, is essential. You will bring:
- A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
- Tertiary qualifications in Engineering, Science, Geology (or relevant)
- Strong project management skills
- Demonstrated experience managing projects/studies and implementing initiatives within a mining environment is highly regarded
- Ability to influence, establish and maintain productive technical networks at a senior level
- Demonstrated ability to work with an interdisciplinary team, coupled with strong leadership skills
- Experience working with colleagues and teams, researchers, consultants and contractors across multiple time zones
- Ability and willingness to spend short durations with international regions where required (ad hoc)

Flexible working arrangements are available. You can take advantage of an ideal combination of working remotely from home, as well as spending face-to-face time with your colleagues in our offices at either Brisbane or Perth. Travel will be required from time to time for this position and you may be required to work short durations in international regions where required on an ad hoc basis.
