About the Role

Reporting to the Head of Health, Safety and Environment for Western Australian Nickel West (NiW), we have an exciting opportunity for an experienced professional to lead the strategic direction of health and safety for NiW. You will have deep technical expertise in Health, Safety and Hygiene and will provide leadership and direction in the delivery of H&S fundamentals and strategic improvement initiatives.

You will be focused on building capability and capacity in the team to deliver excellence in HSE services. You will be responsible for the direction in Health, Safety and Hygiene strategic pillars, and for developing the H&S strategy to integrate into business planning.

Based in our Perth Office, some travel to the NiW region of Western Australia will be required, to enable effective relationships with the operations you are collaborating with. Flexible work options will be considered.

In this role you will:

  • Develop and implement Asset H&S strategy in collaboration with Operational and Functional partners;
  • Develop and lead a strong capable team to deliver effective H&S services to your operational customers;
  • Support the delivery of Minerals Australia and Global HSE Strategy and key Asset HSE priorities;
  • Establish effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders;
  • Define and drive effectiveness and standardisation of processes in partnership with your peers across the function;
  • Build H&S capability and capacity within Site/Operations teams through coaching, mentoring and the provision of advice of HSE strategy, system and procedures;
  • Define and track adherence to, and efficiencies in, relevant HS Budgets; and
  • Manage and support the execution of work that is the accountability of the HSE Function, utilising the 1SAP Work Management process where required.

About You

You will be a passionate people leader with demonstrated experience leading a diverse team in the mining or similar heavy / manufacturing industry. You are a strategic thinker and planner and have been involved in setting the strategic direction of H&S in a business. You have a passion for developing others through coaching, mentoring, rewarding and guiding.

You will also have:

  • Strong leadership and stakeholder engagement skills with a demonstrated capability to negotiate and influence internal and external stakeholders, including regulators and community groups, at a senior management level.
  • Well developed and professional technical expertise from an influenced practice in the HSE area.
  • Tertiary degree in a health, safety, environment or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Detailed knowledge of key concepts, theories and practices related to effective management of HS related risks.
  • Experience in or knowledge of health, safety and environment legislative requirements relevant to the resources sector in Western Australia would also be an advantage.
