About the Role

The main purpose of this role is to provides leadership to a team or teams focussed on identifying, scoping and delivering ongoing business improvement opportunities. Translates strategy into operational plans for the department.

As the Manager Improvement team, you will ensure the strong and collaborative partnership with the surface execution teams and Olympic Dams General Manager’s leadership team (SLT) adhere to the Operating Standards in applying BHP Operating Systems, tools and methods across Olympic Dam Surface Operations. You will continue to drive change at the site to sustain our new ways of working. Deliver site wide improvement opportunities while coaching and developing team capability towards becoming the site continuous improvement experts that are focused on the generation, measurement and support of frontline enabled improvement. Reporting to General Manager Surface Execution, your accountability will include:  

  • Makes evidence based and strategic decisions in alignment with longer term business objectives. 
  • Defines value drivers and determines the boundaries of an opportunity to determine if it is worth further investment. 
  • Sources information, plans and conducts analyses to support evidence-based decision making. 
  • Identifies, implements and evaluates the success of continuous improvement activities/initiatives to improve the safety, effectiveness and efficiency of BHP systems and processes. 
  • Develops and communicates quantifiable business cases to other parts of the business to create buy in. 
  • Applies an understanding of the business context, BHP operating model and ways of working to enhance decision making, productivity and value chain performance. 
  • Engages the capabilities of the entire organisation.  
  • Strives to achieve 100% safety, 100% customer value and 0% waste. 
  • Knows our customer and is obsessed with meeting their needs.

About You

As a successful candidate you will possess the following:

  • Demonstrated experience in leading and coaching at an operational level.
  • Demonstrated experienced at coaching and mentoring multidisciplinary continuous improvement teams who will be influencing, negotiating and leading change within the operation.
  • Strong experience in implementing or building content for continuous improvement tools and implementing break through style/site wide based initiatives.
  • Good understanding of the theory of constraints, LEAN principals, value stream mapping, and leading in a matrix environment will see you succeed in this role.
  • Strategic and analytical thinker, you will demonstrate strong business acumen and be able to get to the root cause of problems using formal methodologies.
  • You will also be a performance and achievement oriented professional, who is motivated by exceeding expectations and able to use your relationship building and influencing skills in order to hold develop key relationships and drive outcomes.
