About the role

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Iron Ore Finance Business Partner team as Manager Rhodes Ridge Joint Venture. This role looks after all parts of managing the Rhodes Ridge joint venture agreements, one of Rio Tinto’s largest joint ventures, and the execution of our joint venture strategy. You will:

  • Lead the development and execution of Rio Tinto’s strategy for the Rhodes Ridge joint venture, working closely with senior and operational leadership.
  • Manage the commercial relationship with counterparty representatives from fellow joint venture participants on matters such as due diligence on new mine, rail or port developments, tenure surrenders, closure, infrastructure access.
  • Lead cross functional teams (eg. Tax, Legal, Business Analysis) in managing the joint venture agreements and dealing with ongoing commercial issues.
  • Ensure all of Rio Tinto's commitments under the various joint venture agreement, and associated audit processes are met, including joint venture meeting governance and financial reporting (through engagement with Controllers & BS&S).
  • Act as the central co-ordination point for internal processes and decision-making, such as annual production nominations, mine planning, new mine studies, etc.
  • Manage the capital due diligence, justification and approval process for significant new capital projects that involve joint venture assets.

About you

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:

  • Ability to influence key stakeholders within the business on complex issues and to navigate trade-offs. 
  • Provide considered commercial strategic and tactical advice to senior leaders (including Iron Ore SLT) in their capacity as representatives on various joint venture boards and committees. 
  • Regularly engage with site leadership teams and functional colleagues.
  • Readily build trusting, cohesive and effective working relationships with counterparts who represent joint venture participants
  • Ability to interpret complex joint venture and infrastructure agreements.
  • Periodic international and Pilbara travel
  • Qualifications in finance or law preferred, with broad commercial and operational exposure

This is a highly visible role, within RTIO and with senior representatives of joint venture partners. The role requires a strong understanding of all aspects of the mining value chain from exploration and evaluation, to studies, Growth & Innovation, Pilbara Operations and RT Commercial.
