Manager Life of Mine (LOM) & Strategic Mine Planning

Work Location: Perth - Fortescue’s Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk people.

Roster: 5:2 - Monday to Friday

We are seeking a highly motivated mining professional to join our Strategic Mine Planning team. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Long Term Planning and Systems, this role is primarily responsible to deliver annual strategic mine plan and annual life of mine plan to support downstream mine plans (5 - 10 Year Planning Horizon).

The role will also be accountable for governance and update of JORC Mineral Resources and Ore Reserves. The role covers both Hematite and Magnetite operations, including the JORC Ore Reserves for future projects, and to deliver the Strategic Mine Plan and Life of Mine Production Plan in consultation with key business stakeholders (Exploration, Business Planning, Studies, Approvals etc.), including communication to wide range of stakeholders.

Key responsibilities include: 

  • Complete financial evaluations and optimizations on the Life of mine plan to ensure the highest business value mine plans and integrated product strategy options leading to decarbonisation of Fortescue operations are implemented based on available inputs and constraints.
  • Overall governance and management of JORC Mineral Resources and Ore Reserves process, and accountability of JORC Ore Reserves and external audits across Fortescue operations and projects
  • Continuous review and improvement of the long-term mine planning process through the collation and analysis of data, and through the identification and implementation of initiatives that deliver increased value for Fortescue.
  • Assist with feasibility and due-diligence evaluations on prospective mining studies/deposits to support Business Planning, M&A ventures.
  • Develop, standardise, and maintain activity-based cost models input (actuals for operations) and project capex database, in conjunction with Studies and Business planning teams
  • Building and maintaining positive working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.

Qualification and Experience: 

  • Tertiary qualifications in geology, mining engineering or related discipline. Additional specialised education including master’s degree in technical disciplines or finance will be advantageous.
  • A firm understanding of open pit mining methods with minimum experience of 15-years in mine planning and mining operations. Solid experience in strategic planning, budgeting and financial modelling is essential
  • Understanding of JORC Code for reporting reserves and lead end of year Ore Reserve reporting for Fortescue operations. Having AusIMM professional certification in JORC code reporting will be advantageous
  • Experience with various mine planning software and understanding of geoscientific data management systems
  • Basic understanding of various optimisation techniques within the mining domain and specific applications
  • Strong analytical and communication skills – verbal and written; Report writing skills
