The Opportunity – 12-month Fixed Term Position
The position of Manager Major Projects & Procurement will be responsible for leading the Major Projects Supply team and associated activities for the procurement of goods and services relating to major capital projects across South32’s portfolio to increase productivity, lower costs, manage risks and unlock organisational value safely and sustainably.
Reporting to the Group Manager Supply Operations & Major Projects, key role accountabilities include:
- Leading the Major Projects Supply team carrying out the activities for the procurement of goods and services relating to major capital projects across the South32 Operations and portfolio
- Drives cross-functional outcomes through collaborative engagement and influencing underpinned by deep sourcing expertise and end-to-end category and contract management
- Providing commercial leadership and ownership of spend for major capital projects, including goods and/or services to ensure business continuity and optimal commercial outcomes for major capital projects
- Demonstrating and imbedding within the Major Projects Supply team South32’s values of care, trust, togetherness and excellence
- Responsible for Project and business needs being strategically matched to the market to maintain optimal cost, surety of supply, and to manage risk and opportunities
- Responsibility for supplier development and management to drive and upskill local capability in line with jurisdictional requirements
- Providing leadership across our Operations and Functions in order to ensure robust sourcing plans for major capital projects are developed and maintained
- Collaborating with other Supply sub-teams in the development and execution of their sourcing plans
- Leading an inclusive and high performing team culture that strives to drive value and innovation
About You
You will be required to have the following:
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience in Commercial/Supply/Projects environment
- Preferred >5 years’ major project and strategic sourcing experience
- Strong people leadership and management experience
- Solid projects experience in developing commercial strategies and leading high value strategic negotiations
- Strong understanding of construction and projects markets
- Good understanding of project concepts to analyse and maximise commercial contracting outcomes, with a strategic and enterprise outlook
- Ability to work at the strategic level
- Strong and effective communication and engagement skills to work and influence at all levels of the business
- Relationship building skills: demonstrated empathy, emotional intelligence, and cross-cultural effectiveness with the ability to achieve consensus and build alignment cooperatively
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Commerce, Finance, Engineering and/ or related disciplines

Location
Ideally, this role will be based at our office in Perth, WA, however other locations will be considered dependent on applicant. We understand and value the benefits flexibility brings and operate a hybrid work model (in the office and from home)
