ABOUT THE ROLE

The Opportunity - Permanent, Full-Time Position, this role will preferably be based at our office in Perth, however Brisbane will be considered for the ideal candidate. We understand and value the benefits flexibility brings and operate a hybrid work model (in the office and from home).

The role of Manager Medium Term Planning will be responsible for South32’s Medium Term Planning process. Their primary focus is managing the end-to-end process to ensure an annual Medium Term Plan is developed for each Operation that translates the Life of Operations Plan (LoOP) preferred pathway into an actionable plan. In addition, the Manager Medium Term Planning will aim to ensure there is alignment and integration between each planning horizon (long, medium and short) whilst leading the continuous improvement of the overall MTP process.

Reporting to the Group Manager Planning, the key responsibilities are, but not limited to:

Manage and Oversee the Medium Term Planning Process

  • Responsible for managing the end-to-end Medium Term Planning process across all South32 operated Operations. This includes:
    • Define key dates for the Medium Term Planning cycle that aligns with key interdependent process (e.g., Life of Operations Planning and Budget processes, respectively)
    • Develop a work plan for the Medium Term Planning cycle that aligns with the key dates and incorporates each Operation proposed completion timeline
    • Managing each Operations Medium Term Planner(s) to ensure the Medium Term Planning process for the applicable Operation is executed effectively and efficiently each year
    • Ensuring a Medium Term Plan is developed for each Operation by the required time and to the appropriate level of quality
    • Monitoring and communicating the overall progress of the Medium Term Planning cycle against the annual work to key stakeholders
    • Work with each Operations Medium Term Planner(s) to identify and prioritize operational planning support that is key to the success of the Operation’s Medium Term Plan (e.g. Asset Management, Capital Planning, Water Planning etc)

Monitor & Improve Plan Performance

  • Responsible for ensuring the Monitor and Improve Plan Performance process for the applicable Operation is completed efficiently and effectively
  • Monitor the progress of each Operations Improvement Action Plan
  • Responsible for aggregating the results of each Operations Monitor and Improve Plan performance results and communicating to key stakeholders. This includes communicating aggregate progress against Operations Improvement Action Plan

Process Integration  

  • Ensure critical outputs of the Medium Term Planning process are aligned with and/or cascade into the short-term planning process for each Operation
  • Ensure critical outputs of the Medium Term Planning process are aligned and/or aim to achieve the Life of Operations Plan (Preferred Plan) for each Operation
  • Ensure the Medium Term Plan for each Operation is aligned to key Operational and Functional processes

Continuous Improvement of the Medium-Term Planning Process

  • Responsible for the continuous improvement of the Medium Term Planning process. This includes identifying and implementing improvement opportunities in addition to executing an annual maturity assessment and target-setting exercise with each Operation

ABOUT YOU 

  • Minimum of 10 years relevant experience demonstrating operational, technical, and financial capability. This includes experience in Operations and/or Business Planning
  • Strong leadership abilities to drive and extract performance excellence from the sub-function team. This includes a proven ability to lead, develop and build a cohesive and high achieving team
  • Ability to work at the strategic level
  • Strong and effective communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to foster alignment and collaboration between Operations and Functions
  • Relationship building skills: demonstrated empathy, emotional intelligence and cross-cultural effectiveness with the ability to achieve consensus and build alignment cooperatively
  • Experience in the development and presentation of key deliverables

Qualifications for this position are:

  • Degree in Geology, Mine Engineering,  or Commerce (e.g. Finance, Management)  will be highly regarded
