  • Work with people who inspire and motivate you
  • FIFO opportunity from Perth

About the role

All progress begins with pioneers. At Rio Tinto, it begins with you.

We are looking for a Manager, Mobile Equipment Maintenance to join our West Angelas leadership team and lead our mobile equipment maintenance team to success.

As an experienced leader, this is a great opportunity to lead our people centric, West Angelas maintenance team. We invite you to be part of our ongoing journey to take efficiency and safety to the next level, support the operation and business, whilst providing authentic leadership and genuine care to our people.

This role will provide you with huge variety of opportunities, with one of the largest fleets in the Rio Tinto Mines portfolio, the leading edge of autonomous drills and trucks and ownership of the East Pilbara shutdown team.

You will partner with our newly designed team called the Rio Tinto Safe Production System (RTSPS) which brings together the best practices from every corner of Rio Tinto and other industries. Our aim is to improve how we operate our assets, manage performance and support our people because we know there is a lot of potential in how we simplify our work, stabilise our operations, collaborate and share best practice across our global business.

We need you to be a team player and work across the boundaries; to motivate, inspire and keep your people safe and well, where our focus is a centre of care and trust. With signature leadership training programmes, growing and developing is more than an opportunity – it is something we actively plan and make happen.

This role offers you an opportunity to manage more than just steady state operations. Reporting to the General Manager and working in a challenging and exciting environment, you will be:

  • Developing high performing maintenance teams and leaders
  • Fostering collaboration in your teams to identify and deliver innovative value adding solutions in accordance with our Safe Production System
  • Identifying opportunities to optimise and rationalise your mobile equipment assets
  • Ensuring core asset management processes and practices are being applied
  • Assessing and managing risks over asset lifecycle
  • Partnering with subject matter expertise to drive high reliability outcomes and financial discipline

Importantly, you'll build strong relationships with internal stakeholders across our operational teams and functional support teams while externally, you'll partner with our original equipment manufacturers.

What you’ll bring

  • A proven commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
  • Authentic leadership and genuine care
  • Demonstrated ability to confidently manage large scale maintenance works, including shut down maintenance and budgeting
  • Asset management or maintenance optimization experience

Whilst exposure to heavy mobile equipment maintenance is desirable, we would be interested in hearing from individuals with leadership experience gained across other operational maintenance environments.

What we offer

Be recognised for your contribution, your thinking and your hard work, and go home knowing you’ve helped the world progress.

  • A work environment where safety is always the number one priority
  • A permanent position working directly for Rio Tinto
  • A competitive base salary reflective of your skills and experience with annual incentive program
  • Comprehensive medical benefits including subsidised private health insurance for employees and immediate family
  • Attractive share ownership plan
  • Company provided insurance cover
  • Extensive salary sacrifice & salary packaging options
  • Career development & education assistance to further your technical or leadership ambitions
  • Ongoing access to family-friendly health and medical wellbeing support
  • Leave for all of life’s reasons (vacation/annual, paid parental, sick leave)
  • Exclusive employee discounts (banking, accommodation, cars, retail and more)
  • Possible domestic relocation assistance

About Rio Tinto

Every idea, every innovation, every little thing the world calls ‘progress’ begins with a first step, and someone willing to take it: explorers, inventors, entrepreneurs. Pioneers.

For nearly 150 years, Rio Tinto has been a company of pioneers –generations of people spanning the globe, all with the grit and vision to produce materials essential to human progress. Our iron ore has shaped skylines from Shanghai to Sydney. Our aluminium –the world’s first to be certified “responsible” –helps planes fly and makes cars lighter. Our copper helps wind turbines power cities and our boron helps feed the world, and explore the universe. Our diamonds help us celebrate the best parts of life.

Where you’ll be working

Located 110km west of Newman, West Angelas operates on a fly in fly out roster from Perth, Broome and Busselton.

West Angelas is a pioneer in autonomous technologies – we were the first site to trial autonomous haul trucks and incorporate autonomous drilling into our operations in 2008, and we continue to have one of the largest mining fleets in the Pilbara.

Our high grade, low phosphorous Marra Mamba orebody is an integral part of the Pilbara Blend, contributing both lump and fines products on around four trains each day. At the West Angelas hub there are state-of-the-art power generation and refueling facilities. These facilities supply power and diesel fuel to the East Pilbara mine sites.

The future is bright at West Angelas with ongoing growth projects at Deposits C and D, as well as additional deposits under study providing enormous opportunities for personal development and career growth.
