We are looking for a Manager Pilbara Communities to lead a team of professionals who play a key role in building effective partnerships with our host communities and local stakeholders.

Reporting to the General Manager Communities & Social Performance and working in a collaborative community within Iron Ore HSEC, you will be:

  • Leading and developing a team of Community & Social Performance practitioners
  • Delivering strategies and programs for our Pilbara operations that meet the expectations of the community, key stakeholders, our employees and our operations ensuring clear and transparent communication through the Pilbara Communities annual plan
  • Identify, negotiate, implement and maintains agreements, commitments, and partnerships to support the business and strengthen the communities we impact
  • Implementing processes to understand and support the management of social or cultural expectations in the towns and communities in which we operate
  • Act as the external interface for our local government partners on partnership agreements
  • Support business priorities and community expectations through effective stakeholder engagement, local government partnerships, social investment, aboriginal communities, communications & events and strategy & compliance
  • Representing Rio Tinto at community or industry gatherings or forums
  • Managing risk and opportunities associated with our business activities and interactions with our communities and stakeholders

What you’ll bring

  • Strong organisational leadership, influence, communication and curiosity
  • Tertiary qualifications in social sciences or related discipline
  • Demonstrated expertise in communities and social performance, including diverse and complex cultural and community challenges 
  • Experience in project management and working through a networked organisation in achieving results
  • Proven ability to build positive relationships and build deep community knowledge
  • A broad background within mining & resources, construction, facilities, or utilities in an interfacing role with broad internal stakeholder management
