About the role

We are looking for a Manager Portfolio and Governance to join the newly created Iron Ore Digital leadership team, which brings together digital priorities from across our Iron Ore business. You will contribute to visionary work, be exposed to new and upcoming technology, and help shape the direction of our team as we transform our way of working as a new function.

Reporting to the General Manager of Iron Ore Digital you will:

  • Establish and manage a Digital Portfolio Office to provide governance, best practices and support for digital projects.
  • Maintain consistent project management methodologies, tools and processes across the Digital Team and broader RTIO.
  • Develop, implement and maintain the RTIO digital strategy and roadmap aligned with RTIOs business objectives incorporating future digital requirements and opportunities identified through collaboration with the Iron Ore Digital managers.
  • Lead the digital prioritisation process, evaluating and ranking digital projects based on strategic alignments, ROI, resource availability and risk, ensuring optimal allocation of resources.
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive communication plan to keep stakeholders informed about the progress and impact of digital initiatives.
  • Oversee budgeting, financial planning and vendor management for digital projects ensuring optimal resource allocation and cost control.
  • Establish and maintain a risk management framework to identify, assess and maintain risks associated with digital initiatives, ensuring compliance with relevant standards and regulations.
  • Manage escalations, risks and issues arising from delivery within or outside of the Iron Ore Digital portfolio.
  • Coaching and developing the capability of the Portfolio and Governance team
  • Provide thought leadership across the program on portfolio prioritisation, project management, valuation, governance, financials, and project controls.
  • Leading and managing relationships with RTIO, IS&T and global Rio Tinto stakeholders. 
  • Co-ordinate, sequence and plan all global digital programmes that impact RTIO.

  • Relevant experience and qualifications in Portfolio Management, Project Prioritisation, Project Delivery, or Information Technology
  • Understanding of digital technologies and IT infrastructure as it applies to the mining sector.
  • Commercially savvy in managing budgets, contracts and vendor relationships with a focus on risk management and assurance.
  • Strong leader with a collaborative mindset, able to guide cross-functional teams and adapt to the evolving digital landscape.
  • Skilled communicator, able to effectively convey digital strategies, progress and value to diverse stakeholders.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional practice development, leveraging professional networks and industry associations inside and outside of Rio Tinto.
  • Presence and influence across various levels of leadership, leveraging robust negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
  • Practical experience or qualifications in Agile delivery methodologies (e.g. Scrum, SAFe, Agile) and Azure DevOps, Microsoft suite, including SharePoint.
