Throughout 2022, Rio Tinto Global Procurement (Procurement) has undertaken a comprehensive review of its risk management and assurance framework and now needs a dynamic leader with a strong background in assurance to establish and manage a team of Risk and Assurance Coordinators (Risk Coordinators) within the Procurement organisation. This team will perform assurance in the form of monitoring and reporting compliance against mandatory Procurement process controls, as well as offering value adding risk management support to the Procurement teams.
The primary function of this role will be to collaboratively review and improve the existing monitoring and reporting activities to ensure they are effective in driving compliance against mandatory Procurement controls. The role will also be responsible for hiring and managing a team of Risk Coordinators who will be embedded within the Procurement teams around the globe. Their roles will be to undertake monitoring and reporting and to provide direct risk management support to the Procurement teams.
This role would suit someone with an audit or risk consulting background, with experience in business improvement. It is essential however, that this person has a pragmatic and collaborative style and knows how to turn findings into valued recommendations, and when to challenge in a curious and caring way, without defaulting to authority.
Reporting to the Manager, Procurement Risk, you will:
- Review and refine compliance monitoring within Procurement, including undertaking an assessment of the impact of existing monitoring and reporting on key stakeholders
- Define the roles and responsibilities of the Risk Coordinators collaboratively with the Rio Tinto’s Risk Area of Expertise (Risk AOE)
- Work collaboratively with the Procurement data analytics team to refine existing reporting dashboards
- Hire and onboard Risk Coordinators located in several locations globally, including organizing and supporting training and upskilling in consultation with Risk AOE
- Ongoing team leadership to ensure Risk Coordinators are supported with their work and career development
- Consolidate the Risk Coordinators’ regional specific reporting into a single report for senior leadership
- Support 2LOD assurance and 3LOD audit activities as required
- Act as a role model by consistently displaying Rio Tinto’s leadership behaviors and values (Care, Courage and Curiosity)
What you’ll bring
To be considered for this role, you will have:
- Background in audit or risk consulting or similar
- Working knowledge of risk management in practice (application, processes, and systems)
- Passion to drive business change and improvement using sound judgement
- Ability to translate findings into an array of simple, impactful communication formats
- Exceptional communication, including emotional intelligence, listening and influencing a diverse range of stakeholders
- Dynamic proven leadership capabilities, showing judgment and common sense
- Self-awareness and a commitment to personal development
- Optional but non-essential – understanding of Procurement processes
